Off to See My Mammy

For the record, I have never once ever called my mom my mammy, just to be clear. But I thought it was a fun little play on words for a catchy little title. But I plan on paying her a visit today. Something I have decided to do on a more regular basis to help my sister out a bit with her care. I've set aside at least three days a week to do this. I can help her with some things around the house, help her with some meal prep and cooking, and take her around town just to get her some fresh air and have a change of scenery. Maybe it's a short trip to the grocery store, or we'll walk around Goodwill or Savers a bit. Maybe some days we'll go out for some lunch. Today I am thinking about taking her to the bowling alley where they have some slot machines set up, and maybe do a little gambling with her. It's something she loves to do, and I am sure she'd have some fun with it. What are your plans for today?

@porwest The 1st kid no-showed but it was the 1st time so I still get paid $45.69 for that. The second student did show so I get paid for that too.

@NJChicaa At least you still get paid for it. I'd be pissed if I took the assignment and had to rely on the student actually showing to get paid. I don't like uncertainty when it comes to money.

I’ve finished lunch and I’m going to the store for some yogurt and decaf tea. Then I’ll go home and set my garbage out. BIG EXCITING life I live!

Speaking of garbage, yesterday was the day to put it out and I forgot until I heard the trucks rumbling down the street this morning. Oh well. Not like I had so much it can't wait, but...oops.

Gambling at a bowling alley? Haven’t seen that where I live. Are the slots fun at least? Nice that you have time to spend with your mom. I’m sure she appreciates it.

Yeah. There aren't a lot of machines. Maybe 6 0r 7. But each machine has about 15 or so different games on them you can choose. Interestingly enough, they tend to payout a little better than an actual casino, which also makes them a bit more fun to play. All in moderation, though. As for slot machines, they are everywhere. In bars, in standalone "slot shops" in shopping centers, and even inside many gas stations.

I'm sure your mammy appreciates your visit. Yeah, have some fun with her. These days, I have a friend from US visiting HK. She has not come back in the last 10 years. HK has changed a lot. I'm showing her around and enjoy different types of cuisines.

Hong Kong does always seem to me like an interesting place to visit one day. I will probably never get there, though.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend time with your mom! Keeping aside three days a week to ensure she gets all the support and help she need is a thoughtful gesture – not just for her and but also for your sister. The little trips, be it grocery shopping or a stroll, will definitely mean a lot for her. I am sure she will love the trip to the bowling alley. Hope you both have a fantastic time together and have a winning streak there. I am proud to have you as my virtual friend Jim. Really proud of you. As for my plans for today , nothing exciting as it is working day for me . Enjoy your time with your mom!

Thank you very much for your kind words. It turned out perfect and she had a really good time. In life it's sometimes the small things that mean the most, and getting her out of the house a bit and able to move around and do something besides vegetate and stare at the same four walls all day was a nice change of pace for her.

I hope you have good visits with your mom. And any time you spend with her I'm sure she'll enjoy. Moms get lonely, too. We aren't doing anything today. It's 17F and I don't want to go outside. It will still be cold tomorrow but we need to do some errands around town. Right now it's snowing again.

Those are really good ideas. It doesn't have to be much to satisfy a mother as long as you're there with them.
