When people become a nuisance while on the road

I was driving in the National Highway yesterday, driving close to 50km/hr. It was a two-way road due to some renovation. All of a sudden, I see two people coming at good speed in a scooter trying to overtake a bus and I had to move out of the road in order to avoid the collision! They drove on the wrong side of the road on a path to coliide with my car. My car was half way off the road and while I looked at my mirror, those passengers never looked back. Had there been a collision it could have been either death or certainly injuries. Worse, for no fault of my own, I would be held up till the issues are resolved. I hate when people make such inconvenience especially on the road. Did you ever have such experiences on the road?

The worst incident I ever witnessed was a motorcycle that was using my headlights to see where he was driving. He'd turn on his headlight when going through a city and turn them back off once outside the cities... It was dangerous and annoying. I couldn't see him when he shut off his headlights. I finally called and reported him. The police missed him when they came from the opposite direction so I called again and told dispatch that they'd passed the guy. The police turned around and came back. The motorcyclist took off and I lost sight of him but came across him a few kilometers further down the highway. The police had him pulled over and were giving him a sobriety test when I went past them. I hope they gave him a ticket for driving dangerously, at the least.

@RevivedWarrior I agree... I wouldn't have called the police if he was genuinely having a problem but once he turned his headlight on in the first town, it made me angry. I didn't want to run him over and couldn't see him very well with his headlight off.

I get to work and my kids' schools by taking one of the state highways that goes through my town. The speed limit is 45mph (a bit over 72kph) but it used to be 55mph/88.5kph. They lowered it almost 20 years ago now, but everybody still drives like the speed limit is 55. One night I was driving home on that highway, doing 55 along with the rest of the traffic... and someone in a sports car came tearing up the shoulder from behind us doing at least 80. I didn't even have time to react before he blew past us on the right. So glad I wasn't turning right at the intersection I was approaching... the other driver was going so fast they would never have been able to react to that in time.

Some people on the road have no respect for themselves or anyone else.

Very true. There should be stricter laws to contain them.

All the time here people turn on the one way street the wrong way and do not stop at stop signs.

I have stopped driving years ago. We do get blamed for accidents that are not our fault. I was in my brother's car and the car ahead slid down the slope at a traffic junction to hit our car. It was his fault but he blamed my brother.

There are some drivers like that. Fortunately with advent of CCTV , those drivers can be legally handled.

Yes, it is driving with a full 360 vision. Else, there would be collisions.

That sounds very dangerous. People on motorcycles/scooters/bicycles rarely come off well if they have an accident.

Yes, it was tough to handle these situations. Hopefully , things may improve if traffic police is deployed in key areas.

I've had a few close calls due to foolish decisions made by drivers on the road. We now have a problem with motorized bikes in my state. You don't need a license to own one and these young kids go zooming up and down the streets joy riding on them. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Thats a bit of challenge there. Unfortunately our traffic rules and observers should be strong enough to deter these kind of things. Thanks for sharing!

That sounds incredibly stressful and dangerous! It's frustrating when others' reckless actions put you at risk. I'm glad you were able to avoid a collision. It's definitely a common fear for many drivers. Dealing with such situations can be very unsettling.

Some people deliberate on such foolish acts to announce their foolishness. It is because of them that the progressive mindset hasn't been set yet.

I used to live in an area that had very cold winters. The roads would get icey and snowed up. Too often drivers drove way too fast and too many times did not pay attention about cars coming toward us. I am glad I do not have to cope with that kind of scary driving now.

Some people seem to have no regard for their own lives—like they think they're invincible. Worse, they put others at risk, even those who are driving responsibly.

I do not understand why people lack sense when they use the road. Sometimes, people put others at great risk.
