The pampas grass has started sprouting! Normally, it sprouts in the middle of March but this time it waited until after the middle of April. I was getting really worried about it. I would have been really upset if it had died during the harsh winter we just experienced. I've only had it 30-something odd years.
I haven't checked any of the other plants we brought with us to this house seven years ago so I don't know if anything else survived the artic blasts we endured.
I have a doctor appointment this morning so will try to check the other plants when we get home this afternoon.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

The Alamanda has taken over our lawn on the terrace. I am waiting for serious rain for it come back.

I hope you get good rains soon and your lawn comes back beautifully.
We're getting another run of storms across the middle of the US again. I'm hoping the cities that flooded during the last series of storms dried out before this series hit them. We are under flood warnings again here.

I do see similar grass growing in a few places.
Not too sure if it is the same as this or something different.
I hope that your doctor visit went well.
Have a great day ahead!

This pampas grass is native to Argentina but is grown as a "specimen" plant here. Pretty and I keep talking about planting more of it across the front of our house so we don't have to mow up close to the house. I don't know if we'll ever get that done.
I leave to go to the doctor in a little while. Thank you.
I hope you have a great day, too.

It was enjoyable. We are back from the trip but well, things are not settled and we are quite tired as well.

It's raining here and 10°C/50°F, so unless it stops raining soon and the sun comes out, I won't be doing anything outside today.

@DaddyEvil It stopped for a bit and looked as if it would clear up, so I went outside to have a look at how wet things were. But then it decided to rain some more. So in I went and then it got nasty for a bit. So I just read the afternoon away.

@BarBaraPrz At least you got outside for a bit before getting stuck in the house again. And I can think of worse ways to spend an afternoon.

Thanks. It's one of my favorite plants. It's just unlucky for me that I'm allergic to the pollen it puts out in the fall. (The pollen, when it lands on me, burns me, just like a lit match on skin. I do my best to stay out of the pollen.)

Thank you. Every time we've moved, I've taken a cutting from it to take to the next place with us. The root balls on pampas grass can get huge so a small cutting is all that's needed to start it again.
I hope you have a good sleep since I saw you on myLot earlier.

@JudyEv Oh, I see...
As long as you feel okay right now, that's the important thing. I'm sure you're keeping a close eye on Vince, too. I don't want either of you to get sick from trying to do too much in one day.

@DaddyEvil Thanks but I skipped the sleep. We had to take the motor-home back to where it's kept and now I've run out of time. But I feel okay and perhaps I'll sleep better for it tonight.

That's a very good news. The grass has started sprouting. Here they had cut a huge banyan tree .Only the stump remained. The day before yesterday I happened to pass from that way.I saw small branches with green leaves growing on the stump. It was a charming moment. I hope we will soon see the banyan tree there again.

One of the blessings of having just two seasons is that our plants don’t go through such dramatic changes all year round. Most of them get to live fairly steady lives—growing, resting a little, then bouncing back when the conditions are just right again. Sure, some may wither or dry out for a time, but like us, they have their seasons of struggle and recovery.
Even when the rains come and typhoons pass through, halting growth and testing their resilience, nature always finds a way. If the plants aren’t too delicate, they usually bounce back, quietly reminding us that thriving after adversity is part of life. It’s always inspiring to see how these little green warriors carry on—weathering the storms, quite literally, and returning with new life when the skies clear.

@DaddyEvil I can relate—my sister, who lives in New York, often shares the same experience. Most of her flowering plants don’t survive the winter, so she ends up replanting them either in early spring or late winter. It’s a bit of work, but she enjoys it and says it’s all part of the rhythm of having a garden in a place with four seasons.

@rsa101 Your sister is right... She's further North than I am so will have harsher winters for her plants to brave through and will probably have to replace more than I'm used to doing.

That's all very true. We seem to lose some plants to the harsh cold every year and have to replant them. The deep cold of winter seems to be harsher than the torrential rains you all endure. I was lucky this year and all the plants have started recovering from their winter's nap.
I hope you're doing well.

I walked around the house before the medical transport arrived and everything seems to have survived. I only took a picture of the black fern, though.

Thank you. The only other plant I'm worried about it a black fern that a friend gave me around ten years ago. I haven't been outside lately to take a look see if it has sprouted yet. The rest of the plants we've got here are ones I bought when we moved in and I have duplicates growing in the house so could start those again if I had to.

@andriaperry I hope so. My regular endocrinologist just keeps saying I shouldn't be having problems since my thyroid reading are "under control" now... But he doesn't take into account that there was already damage done before he brought my readings under control. My eye specialist laughed when the endocrinologist sent him a note telling him I shouldn't be having any problems now.
Maybe this new person will set that record straight for me.

Thank you. I wandered around checking on different plants outside. Everything is up and growing. I need to clean out the flowerbed in front of the house. It got overgrown with grass last summer/fall.
And it turned out not to be a doctor appointment today. It was the "final" exam before SSDI makes a new determination, according to the two ladies who talked with/examined me. I'm supposed to find out the new determination within a month.
Wish me luck, please.

I love the pampas grass but it doesn't really love me. I'm allergic to the pollen it drops in the fall so I have to stay away from it. (Its pollen can burn right through my skin. It looks just like someone held a lit match to me.

It's great to hear that your pampas grass has started sprouting! It's always a relief when plants come back after a tough winter. Hahaha! As if I can relate to this. I understand your concern about the other plants; it can be nerve-wracking not knowing if they'll have survived the cold. Hopefully, when you check them later, you'll find more signs of life! Good luck with your doctor appointment, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
