Last week I went to the Smokies for a few days. I got a healthy dose of those wild and crazy things that’ll pop up when you’re traveling. I mentioned that great suite I was upgraded to. Yeah!! Unfortunately…. I heard a noise and looked. There was a water leak coming from the ceiling. Oops, that’s not good. I called the front desk immediately. MY worry was that there was someone in the room above me who’d had a medical emergency in the tub and it was overflowing. (Or, since it’s a jacuzzi, doing something else, nudge nudge, wink wink. ) The clerk said he’d inspect it, but meanwhile…he moved me to another room. It wasn’t far: the room next door. Same layout, just the bed facing a different direction. Ah, those things that hit you when you’re on the road. Another photo of the jacuzzi in my Smoky Mountains hotel suite.

Looks inviting. We had one in a big apartment I lived in with my third husband.

I could have had jets in my walk-in tub when I had it installed, but I figured it would either blow my electric bill through the roof, or I’d never get out of the tub.

I'd love to be able to casually go to the Smoky Mountains.

Things look nice these days, but in typical US fashion they do it in the cheapest way possible, I get things expensive, but these guys go overboard with the profit they will make on cheapness. Profit was always meant to be fair, not sure where these people get we need 50 to 100 percent profit. It supposed to be like 20 percent or something and even that is to much if you consider the volume of people you are going to get. Where I say Capitalism is out of control.

@FourWalls Yep, just common sense things and they saving money and they go no we need more. I get it can be addicting, but come on, have to be practical and understand the system has to be fair to work how its supposed to. That's the real reason prices so high and people just willing to be overcharged. Enough is enough.

The majority of hotels are saving money these days by putting in showers, no tubs.

Didn’t ask. All I know is I didn’t cause it.

At least you did not wake up with the bed floating in water.

Yes, I tried a waterbed once…not my thing to float and sleep.

@FourWalls I never tried one, but I like a firm mattress.

Did you find out what caused the leak? I always get curious when things unexpectedly happen and we're on the road...

@FourWalls Oh, I see... They were probably bathing their dog and he dripped that much water before they dried him off.

I do too. I haven’t seen any “man floods Tennessee hotel” headlines.

I should of taken it as a sign when years ago in my first marriage my husband insisted we can go to Wildwood NJ in the summer and find a place to stay with no reservation. We went, found a hole in the wall to stay in, and part of the ceiling fell on us LOL then we got a good room,

Yowza. I usually travel without a reservation and make them online, but I pick hotel chains that are well known and reputable. I understand “shop local,” but not with hotels!

Definitely not. I definitely didn’t want an extra hot tub in my room, with one coming from the floor above me.

No, I didn’t ask. Some things are better left unknown.
