Mother's Day is Coming

This Sunday is Mother's Day here in North America. I no longer have a mother alive to pamper on that day, and I feel very blessed to have had many many years of being pampered on that day as well as all of the other days. This year, I find that the twins are at such a very impressionable time in their lives. I am going to try to show them how they can help with making Mother's Day special for their Mom. As most of you know, I am a fairly laid back person. I love being with my family and that usually, if not always, includes eating. I believe that I will gather some nice deli fresh meats and cheeses, some fresh fruits and vegetables, croissants, wraps and my daughter-in-law's favourite French Country Loaf. I will enlist the girl's help in setting up a nice charcuterie board. It will allow the girls to help fold the meat slices (I will go to our favorite Italian Deli-Bakery) and put out little dishes of shrimp, cocktail sauce and the lettuce and other vegetables and fruits. I think that a nice fruit salad would be in order to finish the meal. It will be a nice quiet family time together. On Saturday they plan on going to the Toronto Zoo together, so they will be ready for some good old fashioned home time. Do you have any plans for Mother's Day this coming weekend? ~Photo is mine

you're welcome. I hope the twins will learn that making something for mom is much more appreciated than buying her something

@rebelann I hope the same. Yesterday morning at playgroup, they had little votive candles that the children could decorate with glitter, but that is something store bought really, the candle was, and did not come directly from their little imaginations.

Thank you, when they are small like that it is easy to get them to do stuff for her instead of buying her something.

You have a sweet family and a good idea. I have no plans for this Sunday though hubby and daughter are hiding a gift. Hubby will go to church and preach. He has bought little flower starts from our gardening buddy and he will bring them to church for those who want them, especially the Mothers.

I think the charcuterie board idea is wonderful, Julia. Everyone will have a choice of what they want, and the girls will enjoy themselves helping Grandma put it all together. It sounds like a lot of fun to me! My daughter and son in law, as well as my oldest son and his family, are trying hard to work out some type of meet-up or meal together for Mother's Day. I am hoping we can make it happen--we hopefully will have it figured out soon.

It is a nice place to start for the little girls. We are focusing on hand washing and not touching our skin or hair during the process of putting the food on the board. And with those boards you cannot go wrong as far as placement of the food is concerned. And, they should be able to eat all of their plates (they have good appetites) if they filled the plates.

@Juliaacv Those little girls are so, so fortunate to have grandparents like you and your husband. ''Teach a child the way he/she should go..'' and you are helping in big ways with that.

They are like little sponges so they may as well pick up skills that they can use during their lives.

Your plans for Mothers Day sounds great Julia and it's nice that you will get the twins to help with preparing a nice day for their mom (you daughter in law). The family will be here for Mothers Day and we decided to cater the main part of the meal and everyone will bring a side dish and dessert. In addition to Mother's Day we will add my grandsons birthday (which will be Tues) and my daughter (which is on Wed). Lots of celebrating here on Sunday

You've got so much to celebrate this weekend. Happy (early) birthday to the celebrants. The girls are at the age where they absorb so much information and are trying to form good habits, including handwashing and learning the importance of starting a job and finishing it.

I think that it is a day that the family should spend together as a unit. Having the girls help me put together a nice cold plate lunch will be something that they can do during the summer with Daddy's help. They mimic so much of what I say and do. Yesterday Willow climbed up on me and she smoothed my hair and kept telling me such pretty hair so shiny and so pretty, which is what I say to her, and then she asked me to look into her eyes, she likes to look up close at my eyes.

@Juliaacv At that age, they are soaking up so much information it's a wonder their little brains can cope with it all.
