Playing Cards

The picture is from a stack of playing cards that are portraits by famous painter, Vincent Van Gogh. I like how inventive it is to put such beautiful things on playing cards. An unnecessary indulgence (no, I didn’t pay for them), but cool, nonetheless. I have read several times in prison they hand out playing cards with unsolved crime information to trigger an inmate’s memory in case they have info and want to cut a deal. This has, in fact, resulted in a few arrests. What would you put on a pack of playing cards? Would a nutritionist put health suggestions on the cards? Would a teacher put the most common grammatical errors and how to correct them? Or, would I put Golden Girls characters and sayings on the cards? Use your imagination on an entirely unnecessary question…

I wonder if those were true memories they're triggering in the inmates or false ones they're planting? (You should look that up online. It's very interesting.) How often do you look at the back of a playing card and actually pay attention to the picture or whatever is printed there? I might look at the back of the cards if I'm playing solitaire by myself but don't notice the back if I'm playing cards with someone.

I don’t play cards. I never have, but that’s probably unusual.

@AmbiePam I've always played solitaire and, when Pretty was pre-teen, she'd play card games with me. For a while we had roommates who would play card games with me... Now, I'm back to playing solitaire again. I have shoeboxes full of decks of playing cards. Some from other countries but most from here in the US that I've picked up when we were on vacation or that I found in different places. Some of them are worth quite a bit of money. I've got boxes of collector's editions... I need to separate those from the others and mark the boxes they're in so she can sell them someday.

Those are lovely cards. I would love cards with a flower on each of them, both annuals as well as a deck of perennials.

I like the Van Gogh cards, wish I had thought of it. I love the Starry NIght painting. For me, perhaps I would put various images of beautiful flowers.

It would certainly help expand my flower knowledge. I keep thinking my stepmom’s knowledge of nature will rub off on me, but apparently I still haven’t paid as much attention as it requires.

Hmm...maybe something positive, or something just cheerful. Or possibly some sort of trivia, that would make a person want to know the answer, thus making a pack of cards good for two games--the one they were purchased for, and another in thinking up the answers to the trivia questions.

In fact I would find these a bit difficult to use if we were actually playing a game in which we need to see what the cards are quickly.

I wouldn’t use these for what they were intended. I’d make some sort of art project with them. Who knows what it would be, but it would be fun to make. I’m just not a card player.

I think cards with the artwork on them would be cool. Starry Night and some of Monet's paintings would be lovely.
