I am usually pretty cautious, but scammers are getting more plentiful and convincing.
In my e mail account I received notice to check my most recent Social Security Statement for accuracy. I clicked to download my account. The e mail even recommended that I use desktop or laptop for security.
So, I downloaded my "statement". It was a pdf. I was going to open it, but I clicked to open the line that tells who the sender really is. It was not Social Security. So I backed out and reported it as spam.
Don't be fooled. I nearly was.

If I want to check in I need to remember to sign in myself, not go through a link. That is actually true of almost every thing.

I got suspicious when it wanted to access my details and possibly change them.

I am so leary about opening scams that I just delete and block anything suspicious.
In the last month I have been bombarded with texts that I owe toll road fees. I haven’t driven my car through a toll since before the pandemic, and I paid that when I went through it. Scammers are everywhere!

This makes the third "toll road" scam I have heard of from people here on myLot. They must be super common.

Everyone here that I know, family and friends, has been getting them for weeks and weeks. On our news, they have warned several times to delete and block, don't open, and never try to chat with those people.

I'm glad you didn't open it. I always delete emails like that. If I want to know anything, I call Social Security or go to their website.

I go directly to the SS website if I need to do anything there.

If you point your cursor at where the e mail is from it adds a line that shows you where it really is from.

You have to be really careful these days. SS would have you log into your account to get your statement, not send it in an email.

That is true, but so many things change on a lot of my statements from month to month that it could be easy to slip up.
