Intense Itching Tonight!

Around 8 pm tonight (actually last night now, it is 2:38 am) I started itching very bad. I slathered on more oatmeal lotion and went about my internet browsing. As time went on the itching got worse and at 10 pm I told my husband that I was taking another dose of my steroid early. I couldn't stand it anymore. I went to the kitchen to get something to drink and wash the tablet down with. And then I said, "OOPS!" I noticed that on the stove and on my plate where I ate a sandwich earlier in the afternoon, there sat my afternoon dose of medicine. No wonder I was itching so bad. So I took that dose and help off 3.5 hours and took another one. Finally the itching is easing up and I hope to be able to get to bed within the next hour here. I don't mind being a night owl, but staying up all night every night is for the birds! Do you ever forget to take your medicine? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

At least you know you did not need to take two doses of steroid medicine.

Yes, but it took a long time to catch back up! I didn't go to bed until 7 am this morning.

Yes!! I have been up all night again. It's 5:30 am here now. I'm really not sleepy, but starting to feel a little tired. However, I'm still itching.

@rakski I need to narrow down the cause. I'm afraid that the auto-immune issues are back. I've been in remission for years now.

I rarely forget to take my meds. I have one of those 7-day pill boxes. I'm glad the meds help you somewhat. I worry about you. Take care.

I would get so tired of filling pill boxes. We tried it once and it did not last long at all. I'm still here and still itching. I went to bed at 7 am this morning.

@LindaOHio I have been doing Epsom salt baths and they do help for a few minutes.

@kareng I'm so sorry. I wish I could help. Would epsom salts help? Or a bath in baking soda?

I have a pill counter, and yes, I sometimes find the little pockets still with medicine in them.

I forgot to take my nightly medicine last night after all the drama with my other medicine. Oh well.

Oh girl, I can’t imagine how bad that must have been! I have forgotten to take my medicine before, and I usually start noticing I feel a little “off” as the day goes on.

Right and I felt pretty good that day, so no clues until the itching took over.

Is this because of the allergy? In the past I experienced it once and it's serious. I took a pill and then went to sleep as it was so itchy and I didn't want it to get worse. Sleeping could make me feel calm and especially the pill could work better. After I woke up, I got well

I'm thinking that it is Sjogren's Syndrome coming back. I have not had any symptoms in years--like not since I was back working and stressed out. This is an auto-immune disease. It's not going to be fun to tame.

Yes, I frequently forget my medication. Thankfully, the only one I have to remember is my statin, since the other pills are taken at lunch at the same time. Glad you caught the pill so you didn’t think you were going crazy. Have they given you anti-itch cream (which is also a steroid, but at least you can apply it to where the problem is directly) for it?

Yes, and it hasn't helped much at all and doesn't work at all on my neck. The skin there is too tender and has blistered. Just my luck, huh?

It happens. Luckily it's rare. But I do forget. As for itching, that would drive me literally mad.

The thing was I felt good all day with no itching. I had taken my medicine out to take because it has to be taken with food and forgot about it and it just blended in with the white plate and I missed it.

Maybe ocassionakly, but not very often. It sounds like an allergic rash, UT to what? You ma need to be tested.

Exactly. But I'm really thinking it is all the auto-immune stuff kicking back in. I've been in remission for several years. This doesn't look like it will be fun figuring out either.

I have slept through taking my evening meds several times. Luckily, I won't die without them but I can be very uncomfortable by the time I wake up... I hope you're feeling better by now.

I have forgotten to take my evening meds several times. I have to say with all this itching I have been counting down the minutes to the next dose and haven't forgotten to take this medicine on time or before time since all this started back in April.

I got four hours, which is better than 3 and what I have been averaging. The best night or morning was after graduation--got almost 6 hours that morning! Wooo!
