Not exactly on wheels

Our counselor explained that all the Careers on Wheels (cow) activities involved transportation, even though this medical helicopter did not have wheels.
This was one of ten career stations outside of our school on Wednesday May 14.
I am really surprised, in a positive way, that we are talking with even our five year olds about real jobs around them. People need to work and there are many more choices than I ever realized.
Presenters talked about what they do, and how much education they had to have for each of their jobs. Not all of them require college education. It was fun for the kids because some of their presenters were family members or neighbors.
I was glad the activity was in the morning. It got up to 91 F in the afternoon. We spent a little over two hours outside, learning about jobs.

Yes, real people, their neighbors. . . or parents of their friends.

Wow! That's too hot for this time of year! We didn't get that hot yesterday.
I'm sure you and the kids had a good time. Did you find a new career yesterday?

No, not for me. I will be going into training to be a swim instructor, though.

@GardenGerty I hope you enjoy the job.
I was a lifeguard for several years during the summer back when I was in my early-20s... I had a good time and was paid well for the job.
I taught Pretty and several of her friends how to swim but that was a long time ago.

Kids are growing up so much faster nowadays. I think it's good to get kids thinking about their possible interests early in life. I hope the kids were all well hydrated before spending that amount of time in the heat.

Most of them had water bottles and halfway through we all went in for a bathroom and drink break. There was also a utility vehicle running around providing cold water for people.

It really was. So many of them just say "I want to grow up and be a Youtuber". This is a lovely taste of real world choices.

Grades are all in, but they still have to be in school. This may stay with them longer than some class room lessons.

Two hours in the heat surely wouldn’t be fun.

We are fortunate to have some shade trees, and we took a break mid way.

It really puts in their mind that they will be grown ups and will have jobs.

Yes, how to make money, but also how to fill your time with a purpose. How to help people, how to help animals. I learned that people have their hay ground and blended with other nutrients for the cows in the fall and winter. They guy who did that is a dad to one of our kids.My vet was there talking about her large animal practice. Showed the kids the "tools" for caring for cows and horses. She takes good care of Bruno too.
