We have two resident kookaburras

We worked most of yesterday on the balustrade at my daughter’s house but Vince found time to take this photo of the kookaburras. So we now know that there are two that visit the garden here.
I didn’t get a photo of the two together so I asked nicely and Vince has given permission for me to share this with you. I also can’t find my camera at the moment but I want to take another photo of the balustrade. It’s proving very frustrating.

I saw one in person at Kentucky Down Under, and then I understood the song!

@JudyEv — that’s where I got to pet the kangaroos!! And hold a snake! (Although I’ve done that in a lot of places…)

@FourWalls That's great. I often see posts about wandering kangaroos and emus too.

Do they laugh? Are they the ones with the crazy song? I think a friend from Oz sent me a recording of kookaburras laughing

Very nice photo. Thank Vince for me, please and thank you.
I hope you find your camera soon. It annoys me when I can't find something I know I just had.

@JudyEv I tried to figure out if those were male or female kookaburras but couldn't tell. Do you know what they are? A pair or just singletons?
I'm glad you found your camera. I hope it doesn't go walk-about on its own again.

@DaddyEvil I imagine they're a pair. They don't go around in flocks so I'm thinking they're a pair. I've given my camera a good talking-to and it's promised to behave.

Nice photo! Are kookaburras mean birds, or are they nice birds?
My favorite coffee shop here in my city is an Australian coffeehouse named The Kookaburra!

@JudyEv Are they aggressive birds? They sure look like they could be.

@JudyEv As kids we were taught countless of such songs. In the video it is the U that is used. We sing it with A

I have seen these birds, but only in zoos. They are so different and seem rather charming to me.

They look so cute and majestic in their own ways !
My kids would have been very happy to see these birds in their vicinity.

The birds cooperatively posed for a photo ! I know kookaburras "laugh" like human beings.

Thank you for sharing this photo. The birds are so cute! I haven't seen kookaburras in our place or probably I could differentiate one bird from the other.

That song must have been very popular in the States. Many myLotters seem to have learnt it at school. They are largemembers of the kingfisher family between 28 and 47 cm (11 and 19 in) in length. They are have loud, distinctive, raucous call and often referred to as a 'laughing jackass'. They are carnivorous and not hard to tame if there is food around.

Are you one of those who have learnt the kookaburra song?
