I am wanting to be certified as a swim instructor. Pretty ambitious since I have not really done any swimming for thirty years. Kristine, the Aquatics head for the school district has asked me to for the last two years. I went to see if I could even swim the length of the pool. . . I have to swim four lengths to pass the class, with four different strokes. I did not know if I could even do one. I did four, with rest in between, plus some leg and arm work. I was going to do a fifth stroke, and I got cramps in both my calves. The certification class will not be for about ten days from now. I just will be going in every day and swimming. My cardiologist thought it was a good idea. It will be fun way to make myself exercise.

That does sound like a fun way to get exercise. Pretty and I haven't been swimming in four or five years. While our city has a public pool, it hasn't been open since the pandemic began. The city claims they can't afford insurance on it so they don't even fill it anymore. We always swam in the river or the lake.

Bob grew up swimming in the lake. Insurance can be a mess. In Marion the Sports and Aquatic Center is paid for by both the city and the school district. So they share the expenses. School activities and Rec commission take priority, but it is a good asset. Florence, where I actually live, has a small outdoor pool. It is in the sixties and falling today, so it would be too chilly to swim there.

@GardenGerty We only reached 68F as a high today and it's already down to 60F now that the rain/storms started this afternoon. Pretty did say she'd help me clean the weeds out of one or two of the big pots on the front porch and we could plant gourds in them. Those should look nice if we spiral them up the posts out there. I still have seeds left from... I think... three years ago. We shall see if they're still good.

That sounds like such an excellent idea, and I already know you can do it.

I will be able to pick up hours with her even in the school year, in the afternoon. I am trying to get back to doing things that make me feel good physically and mentally. This is one of them.

I should be able to if I just practice up a bit. Hard to get rid of thirty years of rustiness.

Hydrate! I hate cramps, and get them all the time.

Maybe I will take a swig of pickle juice before I go. Kristine says she could not do that, said her life guards recommend a banana. I told her I ate one before I came. She recommends warming up and stretching.

I did not learn to swim until I went to college. I like water exercise, and swimming. It is a lifetime sport, but not everybody likes it as well.

I was afraid I could not even make one length of the pool. However, if you put a struggling child in front of me that I need to help, I can swim a lot better.

It's really good exercise. I can JUST swim but panic if I get out of my depth.
