I'm always looking for ways to save money whether it be at the grocery store, in my house by turning off lights or reading tips on Mylot. One discussion talked about laundry and drying clothes. Its one of my biggest savers, as I hang everything. What is your biggest saving tips you can give me now? I am willing to try anything if its safe and legal in this state.

If you're one who cut the cord, or even if you haven't, look at your subscriptions monthly, and think about what you use, and what you're not using. Cancel any subscriptions you aren't using and cut costs that way. If you don't already, use LED bulbs or smart bulbs where you can, because you can have better control of the energy output. Set your thermostat to auto, keeping it at a temp range you're comfortable with. You spend more money turning it off, then you would if it were allowed to maintain. If you have a dishwasher, use it. You use three times less water, and a lot less power then you would, if you washed everything by hand.

I turned off Verizon, as the charge just kept going up with so many fees. My phone is an internet phone and I use it for work.

Only use heat or a/c if you really need it. We do pretty well. If you feel drafts in the house, put up heavy drapes.

I live in the part of California where it doesn't get cold, but we do get very hot. We have broken some heat temperatures already and the last time I sat outside in the shade.

I have my groceries delivered which really lowered my bill by only buying what I really need now. No more adding several items in the store. Ralphs even gives me an extra discount when I haven't ordered anything in 3 weeks. I only buy for me, so once a month place an order.

Shop for the best prices, know what the best prices are, and run your pantry like a business so you are never out of something and can time your shopping according to what you need to replace wherever has the best price. If you shop at only one store, you are wasting a ton of money.

I do a grocery delivery at Ralphs once a month and change what I'll be eating depending on sales. Also I grow food in my back yard, so never out of food. Other items I shop several stores online like Target, Amazon, Martie and several other stores to get the missing items that I don't buy at the grocery store like batteries for smoke detectors.

@Fishmomma Any time you are shopping online or having things delivered, you are paying too much for it as a rule. Just my two cents worth. Also, how do you know it's a sale if you haven't shopped the other stores to know who has the best price? Our local Schnuck's has sales all the time. None of them are good prices. There is a difference.

these are tips from my university days when we were far from the market. 1. mix shampoo, body wash with water so it is 1/3rd wash, 2/3rds water. It suds quick and washes off fast. 2. when you've used most of your toothpaste unroll the tube, cut off the bottom, and come in from that side. You get more than a week from an empty tube. 3. cut a bar of soap in half and use the one half until it is small, then put it in a container with some water and use the other half until it is small then squish the two together. When that is small put it in water and make liquid soap.

I will certainly go cut the soap bar, as this one I haven't done. In college we would combine the small soaps and cut the toothpaste tubes.

@Fishmomma exactly what we did. To this day, I still do it. So much toothpaste is in the tube.

Cooking at home is a great way to save money. You can get a lot of food, especially pasta and rice in big quantities for cheap. Make bunch of meals at one time so you have them available to eat throughout the week.

I'm working harder on making more meals in advance. My challenge now is to stop skipping meals, as sometimes I'm so tired after working a lot that dinner is skipped.

There are some great tips in the responses and I'll be using those I'm not already doing. I use part of a bottle of shampoo then fill it with water and use it half strength. Shake it before using. If I don't do that, then I rinse out the container and get an extra three or four shampoos that way. If you can't get the lid off, squash the container as best you can then put the open end in hot water and it will suck up the water so you can get the last little bit out.
