I had a very nice day today and was told something very unexpected

Today I had to run a lot of errands. Our first stop was to the house of a friend. I had some things to drop off and she was injured at work yesterday and asked if I could grab her a coffee on my way. She didn’t feel up to coming down the stairs to get it or to give me money so she told me nevermind after she thought of it. I told her it was on me and left it on her porch for her neighbor to carry up to her with the other items once I left. Her dogs are used to him not me. We finally got some nice weather so before my Walmart curbside pick up I took my little one geocaching. The weeds were very tall and wet where we wound up going so I gave her a piggy back ride along the path and up a steep hill. We found it and then I gave her a piggy back ride to the car. Once back at the car I realized we had left her little bag she was carrying with a sippy cup and snack in it so we had to go through the whole process over again. I had been complaining with all the rain lately I wasn’t getting enough exercise and well today I get more than I expected. It felt good though. I had to stop at my mother in laws house fast to drop off a photo. She told me my stepson had called his aunt a few nights before in the middle of the night and they talked for three hours. My mother in law said he spoke very highly of me and that I made quite and impression on him. She said he was talking about the things he’s looking for in future relationships is someone like me. That I was also so nice and always kept the house so nice and had dinner ready when my husband got home. I never ever would have expected to ever hear anything like that. I thanked her so much for telling me that it made my night and got me choked up thinking about it later. Photo is unrelated and is just a neat wall lamp I saw at a thrift store last month.

That's quite the lamp. I am not making fun of you when I say that your stepson makes you sound like June Cleaver. I'm glad he was so complimentary.

@shaggin Agree about the lamp. They say that people do not remember what you say to them, they remember how you make them feel. You must make him feel pretty good.

@GardenGerty I hope so I think I was always much more kind to him then his own father and definitely there for him then his mother.

@sallypup the lamp reminds me of something you’d see in a haunted museum. You are right about the June Cleaver part . I hope he doesn’t have unrealistic expectations for his wife someday. I hope he just remembers how kind I was that’s the most important thing.

@Ineeddentures I’m not sure if it was actually for sale or not I think it was just part of their decor.

@shaggin Ah I just assume everything is for sale in thrift shops I bet they would have sold it

@Ineeddentures my daughter works at a thrift store and it’s decorated very nicely. People complain all the time about all the stuff for decor that isn’t for sale.

Nice news like that is always so pleasant to hear. Too bad he never told you directly. See somebody appreciates you!

@snowy22315 it had been such a nice thing to hear it made me very happy. Humans seem so often to not appreciate what they have until it’s to late.

Kids notice more than we think they do and, sometimes, they will tell someone and it gets back to you. That was very nice of him to talk so highly about you. You're having more of an impression on him than you thought you would.

@Daddyevil when being talked about behind your back it’s not always a good thing so hearing this was wonderful.

@shaggin I agree, more often than now, things said behind your back aren't good.

That certainly was a huge compliment from your stepson. It was extra nice that your mother in law told you.

@Marilynda1225 he almost never answers my text messages so I never would have known. I’m glad his grandmother told me it made my day.

@kareng it really was so nice to hear. It has me all emotional. I met him when he was 7 I always wish I had gotten to be a parent to him sooner I think it would have been better for both of us.

It’s always touching to hear that someone sees and appreciates the quiet, consistent efforts we make, especially when it comes from someone we may not expect. Your stepson's kind words, shared through your mother-in-law, are not just compliments, they’re a reflection of the positive impact you’ve had on his life

I can imagine how good that would have made you feel. I'm glad you were told about his kind words as I'm sure it's so easy to wonder if you're doing well or badly when it comes to looking after step-children. From your posts on here, I'm sure it's totally warranted.
