Well, now you know who number one is. You just don’t know what song. Meanwhile, I return to my 100 favorites list for today’s song. Another one of those magical songs from 50 years ago comin’ at you right now! #2: Take It to the Limit - Eagles If’n you ask me (and you’re not asking me, but at least you’re reading this so I’m going to tell you my opinion ), this is the song that put the Eagles over the top. It didn’t hit #1 (the title song from the album One of These Nights did), but this song was completely different from the other Eagles hits. Mainly because it wasn’t sung by either Don Henley or Glenn Frey. No, this came from the golden throat of Randy Meisner. It’s beautiful imagery and thought (“when you’re looking for your freedom nobody seems to care and you can’t find the door, can’t find it anywhere”), with that absolutely astonishing high note at the end. (In the live clip linked below you can hear the audience’s reaction, as well as see the happiness on Frey’s face in reaction to it.) Randy Meisner left the Eagles after the Hotel California tour in 1977. He had a few singles hit in 1980, but mostly he never returned to the success of his days with the band. He passed away in 2023 after years of bad health. This is one of the most enduring songs in the Eagles’ career. Take It to the Limit Written by Randy Meisner, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey Recorded by the Eagles From One of These Nights, 1975 You can spend all your time making money:

I never was an Eagles fan but I do remember a friend of mine playing this one on his record player, yeah, they still used record players in 75

I don't recall watches that played music ..... oh well, I probably wouldn't have wanted one anyway, I was 26 and that sounds more like something for kids.

@rebelann — no, I meant back then I had a battery operated record player that I thought was “high tech,” and now my watch plays music.

@wolfgirl569 — unless you were heavily into album cuts you won’t. And, judging from all the hits you don’t know, you most likely won’t. But you can always fib, just to scare me.

I know this isn’t the real Daddy Evil. 1. You don’t know any songs. 2. You never grew up (just like the rest of us didn’t)!

Understandable. You hear a song you like and you think, "I like that." It's different when you love it and want the 45.

@FourWalls Back in those days I think if I recall properly that we recorded from the radio onto a cassette tape.

@Ineeddentures — ah yes, those were the days. And you hated the DJ for not shutting up soon enough or starting to talk too soon before the song ended.

The Eagles weren’t as popular as they should have been here in the UK. Hotel California is an amazing song that should have topped the charts, but it didn’t. I like The Eagles and like this one too. I couldn’t have told you who sang lead, but it’s definitely an Eagle sounding song.

That was one of the things about the Eagles, they had multiple lead singers. Usually, though, the “hits” were either Henley (lead on “Hotel California”) or Frey (lead on “Take It Easy”). This was the rare exception.
