Ten cents richer

My mom stop by yesterday evening to drop off some stuff from the Chinese supermarket she got us. When I approached her car I noticed a dime (10¢) lying on the ground. I didn’t pick it up right away as I didn’t have any pockets and was gonna do that after she left. She gave me the stuff and left and I went home. After I put away my shoes and locked the door I realized I forgot about the dime. Went back outside to get it. Thankfully it was still there. Now I’m ten cents richer. The dime is not new and shiny. And it has a bit of copper color on one edge, which surprised me. I wonder if it was squished by tires or something. What are dimes actually made from?

I always pick up coins that I see lying on the ground. I don't know what they're made of but luckily Daddy Evil has provided us both with an answer.

@JudyEv Yes, I see you guys talking about me. I like coins and have a bunch of them I've collected over the years. I hope that Pretty can sell them after I'm gone.

Dang. I am not sure. When I see a penny on the ground, I turn it over so it is heads up. But I'll still pick up a dime. I think of it as two days of MyLot earnings.

There are times when I don’t pick up a penny but I always pick up a higher coin, even if it’s not the cleanest.

@TheHorse I once found three quarters, one stacked on top of the others, on a bench. I picked them up and put them in my wallet. Wonder why they were stacked though.

It's always nice to find money. My daughter is always finding paper money on the ground during her walks.

If the dime is newer than 1965, then it's made with a copper core and clad in nickel and copper composite. Dimes don't contain any silver anymore.

75% copper and 25% nickel with a pure copper core. But that's a good find. I got lucky yesterday when I went to Ruler and a guy offered me his cart while I was walking to the door and so I got a quarter back I didn't have to put in to get a cart, and no one stopped me when I went to return it. Woohoo!

That’s win right there! I’m not used to putting a quarter in to get a shopping cart. As far as I’m aware only Aldi does this here and I rarely shop there. Not a fan of the Aldi we have here. Maybe the new location opening this summer will be better.

@porwest I was at Lidl yesterday for some baked goodies and decided to look at brown eggs. They were going for $5 and change, closer to $6. I didn’t get them. Hopefully it’s cheaper elsewhere. Will have to see as I have one egg left. I remember seeing a post a few days ago on FB that egg prices are back to normal. Guess it depends where you are in the country.

@lovebuglena Our Aldi stores here are pretty nice with a good bit of options. They're still smaller than the regular stores of course, but cheaper. Here we have Ruler Foods, which is a similar concept, but it's part of Kroger, a much larger company that has many store names under its belt. Other than Aldi, Ruler is the only store I know of that does the quarter thing, although now that I think about it, I think Sav-A-Lot does the quarter deposit as well. I rarely go there because the one we have nearby is a dump and frankly, the prices aren't all that great compared to Aldi and Ruler. I shop more often at Ruler since it's typically a bit cheaper on most things than Aldi is.

I bet you raced back to get it just incase anyone else got it first. I know that I would have. Yvonne would have picked it up when she first saw it and put it in her shoe if she had to We don't get dines here so I have no idea what they are made from

Yep, that’s what I did. I can imagine what my mom would have thought had she seen me pick up the coin and put it in my shoe. She probably would have thought I was crazy lol.

At first I thought I may have imagined it and it was something else. But then I looked down and confirmed it was a dime.

I believe dimes are made out of copper and then coated with nickel. It's funny that you mentioned finding a dime on the ground, when I got home from work last night, I was emptying my pant pockets and pulled out 2 dimes. I have no idea where they came from, as I don't ever carry around cash. Maybe I found them on the ground a while ago, put them in my pocket, and then forgot all about them. I always pick up loose change I find lying on the ground. And trust me, I find a lot of change everywhere I go. Oh, and remember our conversation recently about the words "lying" and "laying?" Well, in the sentence above, I typed "I always pick up loose change I find LAYING on the ground", but my autocorrect changed it to LYING.

Does it mean LAYING was wrong or is autocorrect correcting a correct word?

I can’t say I find loose change often and when I do it’s usually a penny. Not fair!

Dimes with copper on the edge are more recent than silver ones. Modern dimes are made of an outer cladding of 75% copper and 25% nickel. The inner core is pure copper. Dimes prior to 1965 were all silver. Keep an eye out for them!!!
