Believe it or not, these hold the same amount

You can see a small jar and an empty packet in the photo. I should have stood the packet up so you could see it better. Both the packet and the jar contain the same amount, which surprised me as the packet looked much smaller.
Last time I needed ginger, I couldn’t get the jar. It’s easier to use from the jar as a teaspoon fits into it. So I bought the packet and decanted it into the jar, not for a minute thinking it would fill it.
Do you get caught by misjudging volumes? I often move a casserole into a plastic container before freezing it and often have trouble deciding on the right size container for it.

Often it's hard to judge. I usually buy a large jar of black pepper kernels (400 grams), I thought it was expensive at about $ 12. Three days ago I bought a small jar, it was only $ 1.50, when back home I realized it was only 30 grams, so finally I paid a lot more.

I can usually judge the volume of different containers close enough to work for my purposes.

The jar appears to have more ginger than the packet. Perhaps it's an optical illusion. Yet somehow I had developed a mistrust for the business runners. They print the quantity on the pack but when you weigh it the quantity comes to be less though minimal. In your country laws are strict and honesty is valued but here in our country dishonesty us somehow thought to be smartness.

I understand what you're saying but stores here would quickly be brought to account if they tried to cheat in this way.

Looks can be very deceiving as far as space goes. Sometimes I do get fooled. I would prefer the jar as well.

I'll take more notice of volume and price in future. I can always decant a packet into an easier-to-use jar.

I have to read the ounces to decide which one to buy. Anytime they are the same price I am going to buy the easy jar. Many stores make it hard to buy the better value.

I would have thought the jar had more in it.

I thought so too. I found it hard to believe it was going to fill the jar.

@JudyEv That's me too. My spatial skills suck.
