The things you find in bins

When we travel south from Perth, Western Australia, on the freeway, there is an area where there are toilets and picnic areas so drivers can take a break and stretch their legs. On our last trip south, rangers had pulled in to clean the toilets. It is their van that is in the photo. To the left is a perfectly good child’s car seat which they said had been left next to the rubbish bins. I’m not sure what they were going to do with it. In the upper compartment of the middle of the trailer, you might be able to see a stuffed tiger. He is quite big. He’d been left in a rubbish bin too. Wouldn’t it be intriguing if he could tell us his story?

I wonder why people throw instead of donating to charities.

@JudyEv - I agree that it seems like crazy. We found a perfectly working tower computer once. Of course my husband had to take it home!

I guess they were too lazy to take it home and it was taking up room in the car. It seems crazy to me why they would do this.

The car seats aren't cheap. You would think they would have tried to sell it rather than leave it by a bin on a roadside.

It's always interesting to see what other people throw away or give away when they clean out their house for spring cleaning or before they move...

When they have a verge cleanup, I'm always surprised at the number of mattresses that are chucked out.

@JudyEv When Pretty and I have the money, I need a new mattress. Mine is almost 30 years old and worn out.

@rakski Maybe they'll ask around their friends to see if anyone wants one.

If something is left behind, I’m going to assume there was a good reason. Spit up, bad smell you can’t get out, bugs…Bless the people who clean everything up!

@JudyEv That is insane. I cannot imagine leaving that for someone.

People are so inconsiderate nowadays. I'd hate to have to clean up after people. We saw a bin with two big bags of used disposable nappies. They hadn't even tied the bags properly.

At first glance I thought that was a real tiger I'm sure they find all sorts of things in the rubbish.

I wouldn't like their job. Some people are very inconsiderate as regards how they leave picnic sites and/or toilets.

We left a HUGE cooler, a chair and a microwave on the lawn. They were gone 1-2-3.

I guess some people never heard of donating things they no longer need, so that someone less fortunate can use them. If I can't use something, I pass it on. Poor Tiger...he's probably lonely out there.

Just about every suburb here has its own FB page where people donate stuff or tell people it's on their verge and to come and get it if they want it. It's surprising what people throw out.

@JudyEv We have groups like that as well. They seem very active with both givers and takers, which is great.

The tiger caught my eye first! Cute thing (and not nearly as dangerous as the "real thing" ). I can't help but thinking there's some child missing its favorite stuffed toy somewhere because they left it there.

We had to traipse miles back to a fete once becaue the youngest had bought a teddy for 50c but then put it down somewhere and forgot about it. Thankfully we found it where he'd left it so a major catastrophe was averted.

I would not trust a used car seat as you do not know the history. A car seat is only beneficial if it has never been in an auto accident. Here when you buy them, you keep them or pass them on to close family or friends for this reason as well they have expiration dates on them. But the stuffed tiger, yes, I would love to hear a story that he could tell.

Car seats here have to be properly attached. Most of them you can't take in and out at will.

There will be many takers in poor countries for such stuff. I have retained a few toys that my son used to cherish thirty years ago. I am sentimental but also practical when the push comes to shove!

I kept some of my son's teddies for quite some years and eventually he chose two to take back to Ireland with him and I was allowed to donate the rest.
