I hope I don't have to go to the doctor

I mentioned on here Thursday I fell hard on my knee, and it is not getting better. Part of the reason is because due to the fact I was out of town I wasn't icing it. The pain sort of comes and goes. It doesn't hurt really to walk, but will hurt if I kneel at all even in soft surfaces or even bump it against something. I am religiously doing the icing now and trying to remember to take an aspirin. It isn't red warm or overly swollen, but if it gets that way I know I have to go Question, have you ever had fluid removed from a joint and does it hurt? It sounds painful. I guess it could be a soft tissue injury, probably that or even a cracked patella.

I hope it feels better, but after 4 days of it hurting it may be a good idea to go to the doctor. I’m sorry, I’m sure it hurts.

I would, but I wasn't properly taking care of it. I will do that first. The least amount of intervention for the desired effect is good to do.

@MarieCoyle It honestly doesn't"t feel that great. I might just be putting off the inevitable.

@snowy22315 I agree. I have found myself putting off some health issues that I consider minor because well, I can’t always get away to get it done. I made an appointment for myself for two weeks from now, hopefully things will be a bit smoother by then.

My brother had fluid removed from his knee, he said it did not hurt, only a bit of discomfort. I hope that you do not need to see the doctor.

@snowy22315 - May be that icing and resting will solve the problem.

Gosh I really hope it just gets better on its own. Now that you are home and can take care of resting more I’ll cross my fingers for you. I saw you passed the 10,000 discussion point

My Dad had fluid drained from his kneecap once. It wasn't terribly painful, just uncomfortable for him, he got pretty skittish when it came to medical procedures involving needles. He actually passed out, which was par for the course with him, and then when he came to they were handing him a pair of crutches with instructions to rest the knee and keep it elevated. Of course he did follow those instructions. I remember my Grandpa had fluid drained off of his lungs (he had lung cancer) and that was terribly uncomfortable as he had difficult catching his breath, and it was painful.

Oh boy crutches, this just keeps getting better and better... I would hope that would not be necessary. I can walk reasonably well now.

@Juliaacv I think crutches would be a bit extreme unless something was broken and they didn't want you to put stress on the joint

I have had falls in my lifetime ranging from tripping over an animal and losing my balance walking with my shoes on landing on my knees on a cement floor which caused me some pain but thank goodness I did not have to go to the hospital for treatment.

Thanks I hope I put some weight on it in a soft couch and practically jumped out of my skin. Just sitting here is fine though. Even walking doesn't hurt a lot

Well, the doctors will tell you it might feel uncomfortable while they're doing it and a little sore for a few days afterwards. I had to have it done when I was in my early thirties and it didn't feel good. I hope you don't need that done. Good luck. I hope your knee gets better on its own.

For me I think it's troublesome draining fluid from the knee, knee problem doesn't go that easy. If fluid is removed from the knee who will it be flexible to walk?

I have, and for me, it did. They put numbing spray on my leg, but it didn't work. The doctor's assistant had to hold my leg down, so I wouldn't hit the family jewels.

I've never had fluid removed but I've had shots in my knee. The pain is over quickly. I hope you go to the doctor if necessary.
