Quick Info You Might Not Know

I live in Oklahoma, and there are a lot of misconceptions about my state. So piggybacking off Loo’s post about facts you don’t know about the U.S,, here are some things about the 46th state you might not know.
1. We have bears, mountain lions, and alligators. A lot of people think those kind of animals aren’t found in Oklahoma’s wildlife repertoire.
2. Famous people born in Oklahoma include: actor Brad Pitt (although he was raised in Missouri), actress Alfre Woodard, director and actor Ron Howard, activist Wilma Mankiller, athletes Jim Thorpe, NBA star Blake Griffin, man of many hats Will Rogers, singers Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Vince Gill, and Kristen Chenowith.
3. Next to California, Oklahoma has the highest Native American population, although some sites list us as third.
4. We do NOT all have accents. A lot of you have heard my voice, and you can attest I have no accent (other than a general American one). For some reason even my fellow Americans expect us to talk with a twang. While many do, a heck of a lot of others do not.
5. Oklahoma City is our capital though for years it was Guthrie.
6. These cities can also be found in Oklahoma: Amber (I’ve been there), Miami, Orlando, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. Odd city names are: Slapout, Slaughterville, Frogville, Wapanucka and Oil City.
7. Per square mile, Oklahoma has the most tornadoes in the world. The fastest wind speed ever was May 3, 1999 at 318 mph in an F5 (tornadoes range from F zero to F5). I remember that day because I was checking shelters for my best friend whose neighborhood was destroyed. The first tornado warning ever was here in 1948, minutes before one hit. It saved untold lives.
8. We are super friendly.
9. The shopping cart and parking meter were invented here, and I’m really sorry about that last one.
*This picture was taken across the street from my parent’s neighborhood. They do not live in the country by any means, but one side of their neighborhood is undeveloped. They liked to go watch sunsets together at night.

You are right about the lack of any accent, I have heard your voice and you did not appear to have one.
Other than new immigrants, the majority of Canadians, except for our beautiful East Coasters, do not have an accent either.
The East Coasters have a very distinct and lovely accent, and of course the French do, if English is not their first learned language.

@AmbiePam Oh me too Amber.
What i think is really funny, is that those from Windsor and those from Detroit, just a river in between them, like many cities have actually, both speak completely differently. There is a noted accent.
But if you listen to the way someone with an accent articulates their words, it is quite interesting.

Is mountain lions true? I heard about it in the movie "The Parent Trap".
How did the others hear your voice? Do you have a vlog?
Hahahah, I think you are very friendly. You are nice, reading your blog, I think you are nice.
That's a good photo of the sunset.

@AmbiePam hahaha I saw the evil soon-to-be-step-mom in the movie do that, she got two wood sticks while walking and the twins laugh at her. I love that movie.

More famous people than that are from Oklahoma. Have you ever been downtown where the murals are? I am sorry I cannot tell you more than that, I will have to ask my brother. I am pretty sure Reba McIntyre is pictured there. So is my dad, as a young Boy Scout. A woman from his church painted that mural. Lots of neat things to see and do in Oklahoma.

I wonder what the murder rate is in Slaughterville...
As for accents, I had a dimbulb ask me if I had an accent after I said something, to which I replied, "We all have an accent, which is only discernable to someone who doesn't have the same one."
Or something like that.

What a beautiful sunset! Thanks, for the Oklahoma lesson. I just saw an article the other day that mountain lions are reestablishing a population in Oklahoma.

Those are very interesting facts about Oklahoma and one I find most surprising is you have alligators. Mountain lions and bears not surprising but alligators?
I bet if we talked you would think I had an accent
