Pizza Hut Is Still Just...Well, Pizza Hut

Maybe when I was a kid Pizza Hut appealed to me. But I do recall we hardly ever went there when I was a kid. Straw Hat in California comes readily to mind as a place we frequented. And beyond that there were others. But Pizza Hut has just never been "my thing." It's always come off to me as mediocre at best, and generally speaking, I have not been to a Pizza Hut in over a decade. Maybe more. In fact, probably more than that. But yesterday, while out with mom, she was kind of feeling like pizza, and I figured, well, our Pizza Hut here has a an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. We might as well just go there. I won't say it was bad. It was just...Pizza Hut, which for me is "nothing to write home about" even though I am writing about it here. It was okay. It filled the bill. But it rekindled no flame for me and did not give me any reason to go out of my way to eat Pizza Hut again. It's okay eats, but not good eats. The most bland, boring pizza I have had next to Chuck E. Cheese or lately, Little Caesar's. And speaking of Little Caesar's, not sure what happened to them. Their pizzas were actually good at one time, but now they suck. And I'm not at all picky.

Pizza Hut always reminds me of that brilliant Joe Piscopo spoof of Andy Rooney on SNL when he was skewering Yasser Arafat: “What’s with Yasser Arafat’s head covering? He looks like he stole it from Pizza Hut. He should eat at better restaurants. And what kind of name is Yasser anyway, the opposite of no sir?”

@porwest — it’s funnier if you hear Andy Rooney’s voice saying it!

I've eaten at Pizza Hut... Not often, though. They were expensive and weren't the best pizza I've had. There are two other places here in our town that have some good pizzas. We like a take-out only convenience store in our area called Casey's Pizza. They make a really good Taco pizza and that's what we normally order there. They have other pizza toppings but we aren't interested. The other one is called Your Pizza Place. They do a variety of pizzas that are good. We call and order one once in a while and are happy with them.

I've had Casey's pizza, and I would not call it great pizza, but it's definitely better than I'd ever expect from a gas station. The one we get pizza from here, 99% of the time, is a place called Pizza World.

@DaddyEvil Well, of course. That's why we have so many different restaurants, ice cream parlors, retail stores and whatever else you can think of. If everyone liked Ford cars and trucks, we wouldn't have any use for Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, GM, or anybody else.

They've changed a lot. I can't speak for where you live, but the area where I live cut corners. They got rid of all but a cook and manager. ingridents are frozen and pre-made. I know that won't make the food taste fresh. No matter how baked it gets.

@porwest Agreed. I had to have George make my pizzas for me. Otherwise I'd get sick.

@kaylachan lol. I guess it is what it is. But how did his pizza not make you sick and the ones made by the other people did? It's the same ingredients. lol

A glorified frozen pizza is actually a good way to put it. I've never liked their sauce either. A bit too sweet for me.

@LindaOHio There's still time. Trust me. Pizza Hut is probably at the bottom of the heap unless you consider Chuck E. Cheese or a frozen pizza. lol

That's why I like to say, "Pizza Hut is a place one goes who wants something that looks like pizza who doesn't like pizza." In other words, once you've had a good pizza, you just can't accept Pizza Hut as a good pizza. In my opinion, of course.

If you like pizza and don't like Pizza Hut, you're on the right path, because from where I sit, if you like pizza, you CAN'T like Pizza Hut. lol. But yes. Mom was fine with it and had a great time. That was all that mattered to me, really.

Pizza Hut was good back in the 80's, but has since gone downhill. The last time we ate at one when traveling, the pizza was very greasy. Ewww, no thanks.

The only way I'd say Pizza Hut was good in the 80s would be to acknowledge I was a kid and didn't know the difference between a good pizza and just a pizza. lol

@kareng I had Godfather's Pizza a time or two. I recall it being good, but it was decades ago.

I have always heard New York has some of the best pizza. I have never been there so I can't say for sure it's true. But it's definitely "a thing."

I haven't had Pizza Hut or any franchise pizza in ages. I do love pizza and we get a pretty decent one at our local pizzeria.

We have a couple of local places here like Papa Vitos. But they unfortunately don't deliver. But even with that, my favorite place around here is Pizza World. It tops all of the others in my opinion.

Pizza Hut was "normal" to me in my Midwestern days. But I do not think I have been to one in years.

@porwest To me, it just the epitome of what you described in your post: adequate. We had one in my small college town, and I knew what I'd get if I went there. Plus my friend was a manager there, and we knew we could "score" some free pizza if we went there as he was shutting down.

To me Pizza Hut relies on a "certain" demographic—which is probably a pretty dumb thing to say since every business big or small does. But how I describe it is this way; Pizza Hut is a place one goes to eat something that looks like pizza who doesn't like pizza. Which just means, if you've ever had a GOOD pizza, you don't even consider Pizza Hut in the mix. Just my two cents.

We have Pizza Hut here but I can't remember the last time I went there. Probably the biggest chain here is Dominos.

I do know Domino's Pizza Enterprises, which is an Australian franchise licensee of the U.S. company, is the largest pizza chain company in your country, so it makes sense it would dominate.

Pizza Hut or for that matter any other similar chain don't have pizza that would stand any close to my younger daughter's home made ones. She makes it from scratch and it's delicious. We are spoilt and we look down upon every other pizza . There is one local one here called fresh pizza from oven. They have delicious toppings and make cute small pizzas. They are quite affordable too.

There IS something about homemade, isn't there? Especially if you know what you are doing. We still get pizza out most of the time. But I do like the ones we make ourselves too.

Domino's is not bad pizza. I used to like to get their Extravaganza and used to order from them quite often. Still, when we lived in Milwaukee, there was a local place there we liked very much called Tarantino's that got 90% of our pizza business, and here where we are now it's a local chain called Pizza World that gets it.
