Extreme heat

It’s high 90s F here but feels like low 100s. I’m staying indoors as I can’t take such extreme heat. Plus, I hate the sweating. I’m keeping the central AC at 74 F. The second and first floors and the basement are cool. The third floor is not. The high ceiling in the master bedroom makes it worse. And the skylights in the hallway and master bath are making it worse as well, especially when it’s very sunny. Lowering the AC a little bit won’t really do much to the third floor so see no point in lowering the temp. Close to when hubby comes home I’ll turn on the floor fan in the master bedroom. Hopefully, that will help make the room more bareable. The central AC is very loud and works a lot. I can’t stand the constant noise but nothing I can do. Why can’t central AC work quietly? I just finished watching Barbie on Netflix. Not sure what to do now. Can’t just sit on the couch for hours being a TV zombie.

@lovebuglena Sounds like the unit is too small for the space it has to cool. High ceilings are a pain in the rear. We had a cathedryl ceiling in our last house and that was the hottest room in the house in the summer.

I don’t get why the central AC can’t keep the whole house nice and cool.

Seems after tomorrow it will be better slightly. Temps in the 80s. Maybe even one day of 70s.

You can always pull out a book and read when you run out of interesting movies to watch. It's really hot and muggy in the Mid-west now, too. We think the heat East as hard as we can so you can enjoy it. (We've been reaching the low-90s with high humidity every day this week. The RealFeel has been right at 100F every day. Thank goodness we cool down to the high-60s or low-70s every night.)

@lovebuglena I hope your bedroom cools down quickly but you might need to sleep in another room until the heat slows down again.

I went just now to the bedroom to turn on the floor fan and it’s a sauna in there. And it’s nearing 7pm.

In our old house when we lived in Milwaukee, our bedroom was always the hottest room in the house. I just installed a window air conditioner that we turned on at night when we went to bed. it solved the problem.

@porwest Our window opens horizontally. Is that an issue?

Our window is too big for an AC.

@lovebuglena Window units don't need to be the size of the window. The way you install them is to adjust the window to the unit.

I saw Staten Island on the news. It did look very warm. It looks like a lovely place to live Lena. And this cafe that was on the news did some mighty fine looking burgers

Do you remember the name of the cafe? I love Staten Island. It feels like you’re in the suburbs but you’re actually in NYC.

@Ineeddentures I doubt it was actually me. There’s an Italian restaurant in Staten Island where Nonas cook. It’s expensive but I wanna go there for the experience.

They are having a parade for the NBA basketball champions Oklahoma City Thunder in downtown Oklahoma City today. Why do I mention that? Because it’s so hot and humid the players are making their speeches very brief, all saying it’s too hot to be doing this. Meanwhile, people impervious to the heat have lined the streets for the thing. Totally not worth it to me.

I’d not subject myself to that. Not worth the suffering.

My ex and I used to move down to the basement in the heat of summer. It was so much cooler. A/C was you to know that you are paying a premium to feel cool.haha

One summer we slept in the basement. We need to clean it up first before we can sleep there again.

It seems that the best you can do is to go and read at the basement.

I'm pretty much a TV zombie. I can't do much of anything except go on the computer or read. Have you ever thought about taking up needlepoint or embroidery? I used to love doing all kinds of needlework and crafts.
