Some people think it's fine to leave a baby or small child in a locked, hot car?

These officers were spot on and broke the window to get the baby out of the hot car in time, thank God! Details about the parents aren't really given, but who does this? Do these people not know the consequences of this? Every summer, it's the same thing...we read of babies or toddlers left in a car, either intentional or an ''I forgot'' by a parent. Pets left to roast, or even elderly riders. Death comes very quickly. We hear of it, it's on the news, and yet it happens, over and over like an epidemic. I am certainly no Wonder Woman. I have forgotten many, many things in my lifetime. I have, however, never left a human or a pet in a hot, locked car for any length of time, ever. I will admit years ago I was getting in my car in a parking lot and 2 little dogs were in the back seat of a car next to mine, the windows were down about one inch. My friend rushed for cold water, we poured it into the window, trying to reach the little dogs. We called the police, and they said they were busy but would get there when they could. The dogs were not going to be able to wait...a big guy pulled up and saw us and came over and forced the window down with a piece of wood he had in his truck. The owner of the car/dogs came about the same time as the police, screaming her car was damaged (it wasn't) and the police told her she was lucky she wasn't going to jail, so she shut up. The one thing that bothered me is I could tell the woman was pregnant...and I hope she never left her baby in a hot car to go shopping, like she did her dogs. Some people are hard to understand.

Every year the same thing. They should penalize these people to the nth of the law and then put them in a locked car with the windows up.

Some people shouldn't have animals or kids. A few years ago I read a story about a women who left her baby in the backseat with windows up and just went into work. You know what transpired but when she was asked later why she left it there to die? Her answer was that she just forgot. Can you believe it? How in the heck can a mother forget there is a small, totally defenseless baby in the back seat of your car?

@MarieCoyle . ...some people are just not equipped with the heart felt love and concern for another human. They are too self involved and selfish.

I have heard of several instances like that. How can you forget your baby?? Like I said, I have forgotten things many times in life, but never a baby or a child! I just don't understand that at all.

@celticeagle Yes, you are correct. They don't seem capable of deep love and caring in many cases. And you are correct, some people should never have children...or pets, either.

Wow, it sounds like the pregnant lady doesn't need a baby if she treats her pets like that! This is alarming and it should stop happening, but it doesn't; it only gets worse. So sad!

The one article I read last year truly was a punch in the gut. Someone said that they put their phone in the back seat next to their baby, so that they wouldn't forget the baby was back there in it's little seat! SERIOUSLY??? A phone is more important than your baby?? It made me sick to hear that.

@MarieCoyle Right, I would think that the child would be much more memorable than the phone. I heard that tip on the news a few years ago-- put something important in the back seat that you need to get out of the car when you do. If it helps one person remember a child or baby, I guess it is a good tip. But still...come on!!

@kareng I recall my daughter hearing this and calling me about it. She was livid...there was a baby brought to the hospital she works in, and it was DOA, as it was left in a hot car all day (in Florida, in JULY!) She was so upset...it was completely preventable. Put something important back there...because the phone is more important than the baby...we live in a sick world, Karen. It's just sad sometimes!!

That irritates me to no end. It’s just infuriating. Some true stories popped into my head, but I won’t share them so as not to depress anyone.

Yes...the true stories that happen close to us are terribly heartbreaking. And, totally preventable in cases like this one. Thankfully the officers got there to break the window!!

Some people have no brain, the police should close them in a hot car and throw the keys.

The old eye for an eye thing…but sitting in a prison with a bunch of guys who hate child abusers might not be very fun, either.

And there have been some incidents of elderly people left in cars without the car running, and didn’t survive, as well.

Some people should not be allowed to have children or own pets. However, other than labeling them as abusers..not sure what else can be done about it.

I know...and often by the time something like this happens, it's too late to fix the problem of their irresponsibility.

It amazes me also that people can be so self-centered that they would leave someone or something in their car in the heat or extreme cold. I have to confess something that I did one evening when I was sleep deprived as a new mother. My husband was working the 3-11 afternoon shift that week, and I got my coat on to go to a drive through and get myself something for supper. And I stood there for just a minute, really feeling tired, and then realized that I had to take my coat off as the newborn baby was sleeping in his crib. But as terrible as that sounds, that was THE worst thing I ever forgot, and I remembered pretty quickly.

@MarieCoyle I was exhausted, and not having my hubby home to help me with the baby to act as relief made me more tired. I just took off my coat and after I changed and fed him and put him back to his crib, and me to bed.

The Weather Channel has programs during their broadcasts of the dangers of leaving children, pets and adults inside of a locked car during a heat wave.

Unfortunately, many people do not heed warnings, read them, or listen to them. Add in no common sense, and it's a recipe for disaster.

Its kind of wickedness to lock a baby anywhere without attention. Babies naturally get frightened hen they don't see anyone around for a long time.

I had a daycare. I had multiple kids, never left any in a car. I took as many as seven under seven into a store with me to shop, We held hands in the parking lot, we did not have tantrums and we did not stay in the car. My own kids would beg to stay in the car to read. That did not happen either.
