Well dang! A loud explosion rocks Pleasant Hill CA!

I was in bed just now,,trying to catch my beauty rest. At 10 PM,a loud explosion rocked my apartment. It sounded like it was to the Northeast of me, and I felt the pressure wave. A car alarm went off as sometimes happens during earthquakes, and then went silent 15 seconds later. I called 911 and they said they, had already received reports about it. A power transformer? I dunno. I suppose I'll read about it tomorrow morning. I do have power, but the houses beyond the bike path look mysteriously dark.

If there is no light in one area, it does sound like a transformer blew. At least YOU have lights!

This is what I found in the news: "2 critically injured in Northern California mine shaft explosion..." Do you believe it could be this?

@TheHorse If it was something serious you should know by now.

I don't think so. We have old mine shafts here about 15 miles to the Northeast. But this sounded closer.

Is it possible someone got too carried away with fireworks? The darkened houses sound more like an electrical explosion, though.

That would be a bit scary. I hope that it's easily fixed, whatever it is.

It did not sound like a mine shaft explosion.

The last time a big transformer blew here, it literally shook the houses. Then we didn't have power for a very long time. I am glad your power was not affected.

I read further down the page that the cause was still unknown. It does seem a bit weird to say the least
