I think Kitty is confused by the raccoon wars.

It is 2 AM. I hear Kitty growling. and also hear someone munching merrily away on something crunchy. Sighing, I turn on the light by bed and try to chase the raccoon out of the sliding glass door that I keep slightly open for Kitty.
The raccoon looks at meas if to say, Excuse me. I am dining. May I help you?
I try to look bigger. The raccoon backs toward the door, dragging Kitty's bag of food with him. When I finally can reach my broom, I use it to scoot the raccoon out of the sliding glass door, sans bag. .
I then close said door, and Kitty and I watch as the raccoon tries to find ways to open it and get back in.
The problem for Kitty is that I have to keep her sliding glass door closed until the raccoon has left the building.
If she stays inside, then what if she has to use the kitty convenience later in the night?. If she chooses to go out before I return to bed, will she feel she is "on punishment" when she can't get back in?
The raccoon wars are making life a bit difficult here. What would you be thinking if you were Kitty?

You keep her litterbox outside? How cruel! You have a toilet in the house, why doesn't she?

@TheHorse You'd rather battle with raccoons in your sleep and subject Kitty to their depredations? I see...

I think she'll be fine. If you want to keep her inside at night, she'll be fine. Cats can adapt easily and she'll use the bathroom when you're awake.

@TheHorse Yeah, they can. Cats sleep anywhere from 18 to 20 hours a day on average. They're most active at dawn and dusk. They aren't huge water drinkers, and get most of their hydration from their food.

@kaylachan Hmm. I only give Kitty wet food once a day.

We get a raccoon family that used to come through here biweekly. I think our cats scared them off. It was rather amusing to see 3-5 of them meandering through about 3a.
Raccoons are feisty and kitty probably feels that this is her territory.

@TheHorse ........she probably wants to guard her territory but doesn't know how.

I think you will have to make special arrangements.
External fencing to prevent raccoon coming in.
As Kitty, I would be quite bewildered as to what all is happening and feel enslaved.

If I was Kitty,I'd be wondering why I don't have an indoor toilet.

For Kitty it was probably quite confusing, We had it easy in Latvia, A small piece of glass broke out of our kitchen window that faced the garden, We decided to not repair it because our cat Sid could get in and out this way and we did not have to worry about him needed outside facilities or getting his food inside, No other animals ever came in through that window,

A cat flap isn't going to help. Maybe it's time to get Kitty a litter tray. I hate the things myself but ....
