Ah, back at the “home” restaurant, stuffing my face and resting my back. I’ll bore you with all the wonderful details of that great visit yesterday, but first, it’s sun time! Here’s today’s song that comes with a hefty, hearty “Linda? NO!!!!!!!” warning.
The Sunny Side of Life - Blue Sky Boys
Let me tell you something: Liam and Noel Gallagher have NOTHING on Bill and Earl Bolick when it comes to brotherly hate. A friend of mine told me that a friend of his was interviewing Bill Bolick and casually mentioned Earl. Bill said, “We just ran out of things to talk about.” It’s sad when people have arguments, but when it’s among brothers, especially brothers who made such sweet music together, it’s awful.
This goes back to the first recording session for the Blue Sky Boys, in 1936. It’s an old hymn-like song. I say “hymn-like” because there’s no “preaching” in the song and no mention of God. However, it was written by a Church of Christ minister in 1918.
I wish the Bolick brothers could have reconciled in their lifetimes. It’s much too late for that (Earl died in 1998, Bill died ten years later). I also wish this important and influential duo would get inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. It’s never too late for that.
The Sunny Side of Life
Written by Tillit S. Teddlie
Recorded by the Blue Sky Boys
Released as a single, 1936

They were incredible together. I love those high-low blends like them, the Delmores, the Everlys, and the Louvins.

I wonder if Teddlie was inspired to write this from “Keep on the Sunny Side.” Personally, I like this better than “Keep on the Sunny Side.”

1936? Wow, we are going way back here! I’ve never heard this before, or of them, and “Bolick Brothers”?

Next?

Hubby knew the song but not the artist. He thought it was The Whites. He likes it. I was clueless all around.

I’m sure the Whites appreciate the compliment.
