Guess who is now the advisor of the baking club at school?

Oh boy here we go. I was soaking up the sun in the pool when an assistant principal called me. I rarely answer calls but I figured there must be a serious reason she was calling me in the middle of summer so I picked up. She just finished her 1st year as an administrator so we've known each other as teachers for 20+ years. She is on my FB. Her kids have watched my cats when I've been away. Anyway the call wasn't about anything dramatic which is always a good thing. She said that the baking club advisor was pregnant so she wanted to know if I would take over. I paused for a few seconds and she said "it is a paid position". I was like "sure I'll do it". It is probably like a $500 stipend for the year so it isn't going to make or break me. She said that the students bring in the supplies for cupcake decorating contests and whatever but that I could make it whatever I wanted it to be. Luckily the former advisor will be at work for a couple of months before going out on maternity leave so she will be able to give me guidance as to what to do. In the mean time I will be doing some research online for ideas. We will have access to a fridge, oven, etc. if we want to actually bake or make something after school. OMG what did I get myself into?

You should have stuck to baking on the sun at the pool. I'm much more interested in seeing you there, than in some scholastic baking club with an apron on

@NJChicaa A pittance for making pitta? Seems a good way of getting free meals, but I guess you’ll get sick of decorating cupcakes.

I make way more dough doing tutoring after work. We shall see how this goes.

You are right that $500 is not a lot to be honest. I am just curious how much involvement is expected for this role.

I was going to guess the football coach was the new baking club advisor but you might do a better job of it. Do you feel like you maybe shouldn't have taken in so many cakes/cupcakes/cookies to share with other teachers?

Wait. Is it a paid position?I am a bit tired of doing "pro bono" work.

This might turn out to be a lot of fun - or maybe not! I'm sure you'll cope really well. Just think of the money! lol

You will be perfect for that, and no doubt will influence some teens to want to learn to bake and cook.
