You never know what you’ll see at Chuy’s…but that’s for another discussion.
For today, we have another sunny song for the sunny summer (for us in the northern hemisphere). You may remember this one if you’re old enough, so sing along! If you don’t, well…nope!
We’ll Sing in the Sunshine - Gale Garrett
Gale Garrett was born in New Zealand and became a Canadian citizen. She’s best remembered for this song, which she wrote. I’m surprised it got covered as much as it did, given the way other songs were banned for implying “loose morals.” Of course, by 1964, things were changing. Or maybe people were so caught up singing the bouncy chorus (“We’ll sing in the sunshine, we’ll laugh every day”) that they didn’t notice it was about a woman who wasn’t interested in marriage or even a permanent relationship.
Garrett is still around, age 82. This song won a folk Grammy for 1964, and it’s been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. And we can still sing in the sunshine.

Then I’ll be on my way:

Joan Rivers had this joke: “A man can sleep around, sleep around, sleep around, and it’s nothing. A woman makes 18, 19 mistakes and she’s a tramp.”
It was refreshing to see the woman say she wanted to be footloose and fancy free like the men and not be judged for it.

I did a series of songs that were banned at one time. I need to revisit that, with things the BBC banned (they have a different set of rules).

There have been several covers of this. There was even one in country music (I think LaWanda Lindsey).

Nokay! Go play with your sourdough, sit by the kittens, and eat some pool. Or something like that.
