Was animated television (other than Saturday mornings) ever really a thing?

I don’t know when night time animated television was a “thing”, but I know there is really only one main TV channel that airs nighttime animated television now. Of course, there is the specifically named Cartoon Network, but I thought I’d ask you all. I think of The Flintstones first when I think of animated TV that wasn’t first aired on Saturday mornings. Of course now, you have Family Guy, which is way more “adult” than anyone would ever imagine back in the animated heyday. Or, some sad animated show on MTV. Did, or does anyone, watch animated television? Not movies really, but TV shows?

I did like the Flintstones, but I consider that a cartoon. I loved the Jetson's as well...I wanted a Rosie! I have never gotten in to the Family Guy and I don't think I could. And I really don't like sitcoms, either.

@MarieCoyle as much as the Flintstones were creative in the way they incorporated modern things into their lifestyle, the Jetsons were ahead of their time. Life would be so much easier if we could live like the Jetsons! I would also like to get in my car and fly it somewhere

@Marilynda1225 I also loved the way that Jane Jetson got ready for her day. She pushed that button and the head with the hairdo, etc. came out and zap! she was ready to go!

I think in my place they usually air that late afternoon on weekdays then early mornings on weekends. There was a mixed of it from Disney animations and Japanese anime which was quite popular during my time. But nowadays it has evolved already some can be a bit disturbing already since they have animations for the adult audiences already.

How could I forget The Simpsons? I’ve never seen an episode, but it’s been on so long!

I will watch some but many of the recent ones are kind of vulgar and not really to my liking. I did watch some of the Simpsons and of course the Flintstones. Earlier ones that I can think of are Gumby and Pokey, Speed Racer and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. I saw some reruns of the Three Stooges shows too.

You mean like The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama, South Park, Rugrats and Rick and Morty? No, I can't think of any that I ever watched or still watch now.

I remember seeing reruns of The Flintstones that played during daytime hours in Panama but I did not that the first run series was on prime time in the U S.

When my kids were little, there was Nickelodeon. Even some of that their dad said it was pointless and they needed to choose something else. It was not all animated, either.

Years ago I watched both the Simpsons and South Park. Haven't seen either of them in years. Never seen Family Guy but I guess I am out of that animated phase.

I don't thin there is either. I also don't think Cartoon Network exists anymore. On the topic kind of but not really, Hulu won't exist as its own thing starting in January Disney plus has absorbed it all.

Oh, no. I bet the price goes up. Cartoon Network still exists. I wasn’t sure either so I asked my remote to go to Cartoon Network, and Family Guy is on. Baby Stewie was always so funny to me.

@AmbiePam I don't know. We paid $10.99 before tax for Hulu and Disney, but never logged into the Hulu one. Because everything is available on Disney. We got rid of cable years ago. because they jacked it up to 350 a month for cable and interent. Its way cheaper for the streaming. I'll probably keep it until its over 20 bucks a month. I need to pay prime so we can watch the new Cena movie.

I suppose the most famous “cartoon” TV series of my era was The Flintstones. In the early 70s there was Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (which was annoying, right down to the theme song) and Where’s Huddles (where one of the guys looked exactly like Barney Fife, and their pesky neighbor was voiced by Paul Lynde). Those are the ones I remember until The Simpsons and King of the Hill.
