I wanna cry

Yesterday, I had two lovely ears of corn on the stalks in my garden. I thought I'd leave them for one more day, Today, nothing! Something got them. I don't know if someone came in my yard and took them or if it was the work of killer ants... because there was a swarm of them at the site of one missing ear. At least I was able to pick some green beans and cucumbers for my dinner.

@BarBaraPrz I remember when one of my pumpkins grew by the other side of my fence and disappeared.

Oh, I am sure sorry. I was waiting on several lovely large tomatoes to get riper before picking--and they disappeared! No one has ever stolen any of my garden produce before. Do I blame the geese? They have never eaten the tomatoes, either. But more are coming on so I am hopeful.

@MarieCoyle Yes, you didn't put in all that work just for the heck of it: you wanted to eat fresh tomatoes.

@BarBaraPrz Yes, I think so as well...and someone with only two feet, not four. I have never had anything stolen from my yard or garden here. But I guess someone really, really wanted my pretty tomatoes. Whoever it was, has not returned for more, and that's a good thing. I want my tomatoes for my son and I to enjoy!!

Such tragedies are a regular in our garden - It is the birds that commit the crime.

The birds kept getting the mulberries, then pooping purple poo all over, so I cut down the tree last summer.

@BarBaraPrz I do not mind birds eating the fruits but not the vegetables such as chilies.

I'm sorry. Do you know what has happened to me for the first time ever this Season? It has nothing to do with garden vegetables. It has to do with growing sunflowers. In the past, I was able to grow sunflowers. This year, I grew some, but after some bloomed really nice, all of a sudden, I would go out to look and some creature would have bitten the heads off them! I was shocked. I am thinking squirrels may have done it.

We have a fat little squirrel that kept stealing the veggies I was growing on our front porch. I'm sorry something took your corn.

@BarBaraPrz You're welcome. The squirrels do that here, too. I pull up walnut trees all the time.

Oh, no. I am so sorry. I would bet it’s definitely animal related. My stepmom had some lovely corn, and she saw a crow get one, and something else got the other one because it was a clean “break”. A human couldn’t have gotten in her back yard to do it. I’m glad your green beans and cucumbers made it. My great grandma grew the absolute best green beans; I imagine yours would stand up there with hers.

I tried to grow corn only one year. The squirrels demolished it and that was the end of that.

Years ago, I saw a squirrel take down the entire stalk, and there's lots of them around here, so you may be correct, Sherlock.
