So suddenly MAGA wants healthy food in schools

What hypocrites. The GOP flipped the hell out when Michelle Obama led a program to institute healthier foods in school cafeterias. FLIPPED. THE. HELL. OUT. They were outraged that students were given brown rice instead of white, had to have a piece of fruit, and couldn't have full fat milk, etc. I remember seeing the cafeteria producing homemade nutritious meals while on duty and the GOP was freaking because they wanted their kids to be able to eat pizza and drink soda every day. Freedumb!
After Trump 1.0 those rules were rescinded and the house-made food was done. The salad bar was gone. Then during COVID things absolutely went off the rails. It was pizza and other assorted frozen fried things every single day. Vegetables? Sure they would offer mini bags of baby carrots. The students sure love throwing them across the cafeteria.
The custodians hate carrot days.
So now that moron RFK Jr. is on his "MAHA" mission and wants to ban ultraprocessed foods, foods with artificial dyes, foods grown with pesticides, etc. Suddenly MAGA and the GOP are fine with improving school lunches. I mean they won't approve an increase in funding to provide them but hey the schools will figure it out, right?

Popular band wagon, I think. I will say that the whole time I have been in the schools for this time, the food has seemed pretty good. We have an outside contractor. During covid they had too many cold lunches, sandwiches, though. In our little school the kids get lots of choices, and a cold bar where they have to choose two things.

I've had cafeteria duty twice in the past few years (and many many times before) and the food recently is disgusting. Pizza every day. They don't make anything from scratch. It is gross. I mean sure it is better than nothing for students who don't get to eat at home but it is still gross. They deserve so much better.

When I went to high school (admittedly a small one in a rural community) the cafeteria offered one "home-made" meal, or soup, cups of white or chocolate milk, and some sort of dessert. I mostly brought my own lunch and only bought the milk (at 5 cents a cup).

I well remember the fits that were thrown when kids had to eat a healthy lunch. They all seemed to think that a proper lunch was soda, potato chips, and whatever else the child wanted. Nothing healthy. So that’s basically what most of them get. And now Kennedy wants to change this so it’s a good thing??
I was surprised to find out that the schools here don’t sell sodas. Glad, but surprised!

I find it amazing how many people consume those things daily...endless sodas, and chips are especially popular--some people eat them every day. The only chips I ever eat are tortilla chips and salsa, and I don't honestly eat but just a couple. If they are baked I will eat a few more.
