Unforeseen expenses this month..

This month, a lot of money was spent. My seventeen-year-old refrigerator was not functioning properly. I can't recall the last time we received ice from it. Consequently, we had to purchase a new refrigerator. One of my air conditioners isn't working right now. I believe there is a gas leak, so I will have to pay to fill it up. I'm having a bad month because I had to spend money on unforeseen expenses. This month, I was unable to save anything. How do you handle such unforeseen expenses?

@sjvg1976 If you think it is a must then perhaps you could take a loan

I'm glad you had the money to buy a new fridge and hope you can get the air conditioner fixed. We had to save up the money to get our car fixed in January and then fix the washing machine in February... We save until we can get things we need. We don't have credit cards and, while I could go borrow money from the bank, I'd rather not do that.

I don't use credit cards or don't like to take loan from the bank as have to pay huge interest. I had to spend money from my salary.

@sjvg1976 That's how I used to buy things, too. Now, Pretty gets a paycheck so she pays for things we need.

@DaddyEvil hmm...It's hard for me because both of my kids will complete schooling next year and will go for the higher studies which will cost more money so for me saving is important.

Oh, I feel badly for you. I had an unexpected prescription cost this month that my insurance did not cover, and I actually had to borrow money from my dad. I felt terrible about it, but I have nothing after paying my bills this month.

Hmm.,.I believe if an appliance frequently breaks down then it's better to replace it with new one.

Well, that's part and parcel of life. These unforeseen expenses do hit the pocket hard. Sometimes it crosses the emergency fund that we have. Can't do anything about it. We just go a bit tight in coming months to compensate.

Yes that's true. But it's hard to cope up when you have lots of planned expenses ahead.

I understand how stressful it is when several big expenses happen in the same month. Replacing a refrigerator and fixing an air conditioner aren’t optional costs, so it’s normal to feel frustrated when savings take a hit. Unexpected repairs can make it seem like you’re losing progress, but they also prevent bigger problems later. To prepare for moments like this, it helps to set aside a small emergency fund— even just 500 or 1,000 a month can add up over time. Some also keep a “home maintenance” fund for appliance repairs and replacements. Having such fund handy can make this moments a bit easier to face.

I take it with a grain of salt. Nothing doing, anyway. Then, I learned my lesson, so I save for these unexpected events and expenditures.

Happens with us sometimes. Things dont go as planned. I too am facing a similar situation just now. Not having problems with any appliances but suddenly some extra expenses have come up and I dont have the resources just now. Hope to manage something by the end of the month.

Right now I don't have to spend on anything. I don't have AC. I have two coolers and both are functioning well. I don't have to get my house repaired. I have repaid all my bills either.
