A funny sign at the monastery

I saw this sign in the New Norcia museum. The St Benedictine monks there had a fully-operating printing press and we were able to walk though the printing area and see the various machines. Type-setting has always intrigued me and it was interesting to see the printing blocks. The monks even printed music. One was an accomplished musician and composer and I have some sheet music of Australian poems which he set to music. Moving on … I saw this notice in the room and thought I’d share it. For those who aren’t au fait with classical music, Bach, Chopin and Offenbach were all famous classical composers. It’s a clever sign. Edit: Gone Chopin could be interpreted as 'Gone shopping'; Bach in a Minuet as 'Back in a minute' and 'Offenbach sooner' as 'Often back sooner (than a minute).

This is a well known sign often seen in musical stores. The "gone Chopin" part suggests a departure from the passionate Chopin's music, while "Bach in a minuet" indicates a return to a more formal world of Baroque. They added Offenbach to the sign.

@JudyEv Not necessarily, It depends on the exposure to the language. Not all native speakers have the opportunity for such an exposure In this context it is more to do with the knowledge of music composers.

That sounds like such a great experience! Seeing the old printing press must have been fascinating. I love that the monks even printed music. The sign is really clever too. Thanks for sharing, it made me smile.

There were 70 monks there at one point and they were mostly self-sufficient. You had to admire what they achieved.

It's probably a bit hard to understand if English isn't your first language. I've edit it now to make it clearer.
