Two Beagles

Well actually it seems like the old normal of a new one a month or more is back. We had two stray beagles 3 weeks ago and I posted on our community page about them. They were gone the following day. Then oddly enough 2-3 days later I see on another community page that there are two beagles for sale. I honestly felt like these were the same two dogs at my house. I assumed they escaped their yard, since they had collars on and were sweet dogs. This really upset me, but what could I do about it? I had no proof. But I did learn the lesson about posting on the community page on Facebook. I will no longer give a general location of where dogs are or were found. They will have to PM me and describe the dog and give name(s), etc. I think this will prevent any more wrong doings! I have felt so bad about these two pups. Have you ever had a similar situation happen to you? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain Photo credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

I'm always seeing lost dogs and cas on the neigbrs app for Ring. I even posted once when a dog found its way to our front porch.

We have had lost dogs come out of the woods which is fine and don't mind taking them in and feeding them. Some of those have been reunited with owners, but this situation doesn't feel right. Also, have had several dogs just dumped here. Even a litter of puppies before.

@kareng You have been identified as a dog lover no matter where they come from, perhaps

I've no dogs, and so no question of losing arises. I don't keep them as my pets, because I know I can't properly look after them.

Part of why I waited so long before making it official with Pedro. He acted like a family cat, and no, I did not post him, because of things like that. A lot of people post when their pets are missing and I do respond if I know anything.

We have already had another stray show up and I did post but did not leave any location. But in future I won't post or it will be very vague.

Someone surely stole those dogs and now they want to sell them. I never post a precise location on Facebook, it's dangerous.

I didn't do exact, just a vicinity. But the dogs were picked up the next day. Learned my lesson on that now. Usually a good group of people here in my area.

@kareng - The fact is that also people not living in the area may read those posts. They can help to find animals, but we must be careful.

Some people have no ethics at all. You just don't really expect this sort of behaviour. It's so wrong.

I agree. I learned my lesson. Those poor dogs. I just keep seeing the picture of them together crammed in a small kennel from her for sale post. You know the owner would not be doing that! Not crammed in a kennel.

@kareng That is so low! I suppose she wanted top dollar too.

I would be frantic about the poor dogs. I'm sure their owners are looking for them.

If they belonged to you then perhaps you could create a noise.

They didn't, and I won't stoop to that kind of behavior.

If my gut feelings are right, I'm not liking the fact that they "stole" the dogs and then put them up for sale to make money off of them. That doesn't sit right with me at all. We have fostered and kept lost hunting dogs that have come out of the woods thin as bones and fed them and cared for them until owners showed up or kept them. Have had some of the best pets that way. That just wasn't the case with the appearance of these two. It makes me sad.

That is how I have been feeling. The photo she had posted with the dogs for sale had both of the dogs crammed into a small kennel.

Mostly what we have here are cats but any cat lost my friends down stairs give a home to and then search to see if there is anyone looking for them,

That is a nice thing to do. We have done it many times for stray dogs coming out of the woods that hunters have left behind. Several cats have appeared from the woods also.

Beagles can be a handful. I hope your dogs landed in a safe spot.

They were not my dogs. But if she got a sale, it will be a better place for them than with the thief!!

I've never heard anything good about Facebook marketplace. I hope that they weren't the same ones. But you are wise to be more specific should you have the same thing happen again.

Your plan to be more cautious with details sounds smart; it’s hard to balance helping lost pets and keeping them safe. I haven’t personally had that happen, but I can see how it would make anyone feel upset and cautious.
