Cousin #3 called me yesterday and came over. The reason she didn't call was that she got overheated a couple of days ago and broke out into hives; and her face was swollen. I have been trying to call the IRS for a couple of weeks now. Sometimes they say that the lines are too busy and to try at another time. Other times I wait for 1/2 hour to get connected to a rep; and then they transfer me to another department; and I wait for another 1/2 hour. Two times that I did this they disconnected me when it came to be my turn. I need to talk to someone about what is required when you make charitable contributions of over $500. I have tons of clothing and other items to donate. I read that now the limit is $250 before you have to have more documentation; so they've made it more difficult. My PCP has ordered a renal ultrasound for me. That means lying flat on that #### table for who knows how long. Waaaaay too much pain involved. Breakfast - Protein bar Lunch - Meals on Wheels - Tuna salad sandwich, 3 bean salad Dessert/Snack - 1/2 Apple cinnamon muffin Dinner - Buffalo chicken/Muenster sandwich, generic Cheetos What did you eat yesterday? I hope cousin #3 is doing better now. I've overheated once and passed out when working in the yard. Pretty dragged me into our Daytona and drove me to the ER. (I was sure I'd have to replace the tranny when I got out of the hospital but it was fine. She drove in 1st gear the mile to the hospital. She never learned how to drive a stick shift.) I know that charitable donations of items/clothing must each be documented as to the type of item and the estimated value of the item you're donating and where you donated it as well as filling out a form for the IRS but I can't remember what form. (We had to do that when we were donating clothing/furniture when we moved to this house.) If your charitable donation is more than $5000, you'll need to get a qualified appraisal of the items. (We decided that was too much trouble and expense so didn't bother.) For cash donations over $250, you have to have written documentation from the person/charity acknowledging the donation and the amount along with a written statement detailing if you received services or goods in exchange. Donating stuff and writing it off on your taxes is a pain in the tush! I hope you won't be in as much pain as you think you will and it will be done quickly. I ate a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast, ate the last of the baked chicken with some of the potatoes and onions for lunch and just ate a bun-less hamburger for "supper" at 3 am. I shouldn't need breakfast this morning. As long as I can still see when Pretty is ready to go grocery shopping, we need some things from the store today. We have at least one more day at 101F or higher before it cools down according to the weather predictions.

@LindaOHio My insurance at the time wouldn't have paid for an ambulance. She knew that. That, I don't know. It was changed, I think, in 2008 around the time of the downturn. Probably because people were trying to donate everything they owned and the IRS got tired of trying to figure out if people were trying to cheat them on taxes. (That's just a guess based on the time that i was changed.) I keep wishing the threatening rain would fall... I just checked and we're supposed to have highs in the 80s from Wednesday through to the weekend when the temps start going back up again.

@DaddyEvil We are supposed to get rain today. I hope so. I have tons of my husband's clothes and my clothes to donate, plus the downsizing and decluttering we will be doing. It sucks that I can't donate without jumping through hoops.

I"m surprised Pretty didn't call 911. That was good of her to drag you to the car and drive to the ER. I'm wondering who changed the top limit to $250 for normal record keeping? You're right, it's a pain in the butt. We're going to get some 70s this week. That's perfect weather. I'm sorry you're still roasting. My SIL in Phoenix is roasting too.

You don't have to report donating things unless you want a deduction on your taxes.

@LindaOHio oh, my bad. We don't even do taxes since we don't need to.

I had a renal ultrasound done years ago. I want to say that they had to have an RN in the room to put in an IV and then monitor me during that as it had a dye in it for the test. It was so long ago, it could have been another test, or they could have changed the procedure. I remember my niece, Stacey, was the x-ray technologist, and explained everything to me step by step.

You have to have an IV? Did you lie on your back or your stomach?

@LindaOHio It was so long ago, but I believe that I was on my back. But it was a cushioned table of sorts, not a normal x-ray table.

@Juliaacv With my spinal problems it's very painful for me to lie flat. I also have difficulty in the dentist's chair. I can't be put flat which annoys the dentists because they need you to be more accessible.

I donated plenty of things to the charity when we moved, but we are no more allowed to deduct charitable contributions. Well, I was happy to donate instead of throwing.

You can't deduct charitable contributions at all? That doesn't seem fair; however, the US is limiting it. I wonder who made that decision?

@LindaOHio - We can't deduct anymore in Switzerland, it was possible in the past but no more now. I do not know here in Italy, but for the moment I have no more stuff to donate.

Hope you can get an answer on what you need for the donations (IRS). Sounds like a huge pain in the butt to try to get hold of anyone there. I hope you'll be able to do that ultrasound. Sounds like it could be hard for you . Last night we had brown sugar rubbed pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and roasted carrots.

@LindaOHio I think it's a good idea to claim the $250 unless you can get some definite reliable answers to your question as to how much you can claim. My doctor wants me to go for a bone density test but I have the same problem as you with not being able to life flat on the table. So, so far I've put it off. But, when it comes to your kidneys I think you might have to give in and have it done. I feel so bad for you

@Marilynda1225 The bone density test doesn't last too long. I just bit my lip and tolerated the pain. Yes, I'm going to make an appointment for October 2 for the kidney ultrasound. By then I will have my other appointments out of the way.

Not sure how much you have to donate now to get a tax slip but Goodwill used to offer them routinely.

Yes you can get a receipt; but you can't donate over $250 without jumping through hoops if you want to take it off your taxes.

I know it’s a pain, literally. But it’s necessary! Glad your cousin is okay, sorry she got overheated. Chuy’s for lunch, three different kinds of hash browns for dinner. Fiber, sorbet, applesauce, yogurt!

I just donate anymore and do not care about claiming it on my income tax. Did you ever get ahold of the IRS.

Nope. I will probably just claim everything under $250 and forget about the rest.

Glad she will be coming over. I never claim deductions for what I donate. It's just a pain. You would have better luck calling a tax person for the information. The IRS is one of the departments that was gutted of employees

One thing about the IRS; the only time they are an easy "contact" is when they want to contact you, and you owe them money. lol For dinner we were still in Memphis and after spending the day at Graceland, wound up at another barbecue place called Corky's. I had beef brisket with mixed greens and macaroni and cheese on the side. Very good eats, although I flipped the bill on this one. Wasn't too bad with 5 people at $180 with tip.

I gave up calling the IRS. I'm glad you got your beef brisket. It's 5:25 am; and I'm hungry! I had a protein bar; but I have to wait until around 11 am for Meals on Wheels. Reading about all this food isn't helping.
