Construction Again

The construction crew came over this morning and two of them worked on finishing installing the storm windows and one worked on the bathroom light/fan. The two working on installing the new storm window had to stop that and rebuild the two windows in Pretty's room. The sills (bottom of the window in the wall) were rotting out so they took that part out and put in new sills on both windows before they installed the new storm windows over them. The guy working on the fan/light in the bathroom re-wired the fixture and hooked the light into a switch of its own. Everything should be done now. The construction boss told me that OACAC (The company doing all the work.) would send out an inspector who will examine everything that was done and pass it. He might also say something needs to be re-done or something else still needs to be done. His office will call and make an appointment for him to come out and do that. The construction boss said he planned on coming with the inspector so they could both look things over again here. (I believe he's found some other things he wants to point out that still needs to be taken care of but he didn't tell me that. We shall see.

Thanks. They were just waiting for the heat wave to calm down a little before coming back. The guy that went up into the attic to work on the wiring for the bathroom light came back down dripping with sweat and beet red. I'm glad he didn't need to stay up there for very long.

@JudyEv Yeah, I was worried about him. It was 97F/36C outside while he was working in the attic.

@DaddyEvil It's not really a good thing if he was so red.

Well, that is great. I bet you are excited to have it all done. Do you see where there are some other things that still need to be done?

There are a few other things that could be done to make the house use less electricity, yes, but we didn't have the budget in the government grant to pay for them.

Thanks. I hope we save money now on the gas and electric bills. Every year, the government pays our gas heating bill for two months. They give the gas company $400 and the gas company doesn't bill me until that money runs out. (I'm a senior citizen and get that money to help pay my heating bills. We should have been given that much for the summer electric bill this year because I'm over 60 but Pretty said they told her they ran out of money before they could give us any for the electric bill this summer.) Pretty said that was okay because we have plenty of money now that the government is paying most of our rent now. (We used a big chunk of that leftover rent money to have our car fixed and the washing machine fixed this summer. )

Thank you. We don't normally have to worry about things breaking. This was just a bad year for us.

@DaddyEvil You should do what you need to do to make up for lost sleep I do not know when it was the last time that I broke my sleeping schedule

@allknowing Unless something keeps me awake, I'll fall asleep tonight whether I want to or not. It's quiet in the house again. Pretty isn't making noise and the only sound I can hear in my bedroom is the fan that's at the end of my bed. I'm used to hearing it. It runs all year round.

They were fairly quiet doing the work this time but I stayed awake and read an ebook on my phone. The construction boss kept coming in and asking me things or telling me what they were doing. I went to sleep after they left and just woke up to use the restroom. I probably won't be on myLot all night tonight like I normally am. I'm still exhausted from not sleeping during the daytime. I only slept today about 4 hours.

I have the feeling you have been lucky with those workers. They care to do a good job and fixed what needed to be fixed, no matter if it was planned or not. I hope that now everything is fixed and the inspector will find that everything is in order now.

Thank you. Most of it is done. OACAC is still having two storm windows re-manufactured. The bottom sashes in two of the window frames won't close. The sashes were built too wide for the frames. We're waiting for those windows to come in and be replaced.

Me, too! I was so tired last night that I slept the whole night instead of being awake and reading or watching movies. I'm still tired this morning.

Thanks... It's supposed to be all done now. But Pretty has applied for another grant for new back steps into the house. Hopefully that will happen soon, too. (The stairs into the back door of the house are narrow and steep with no handrails. I'm scared to try to use them. I've fallen on them once and won't try that again.)
