Too much of a good thing

A comment was made recently about visiting nursing homes and also about providing entertainment for the residents. I know several people who regularly play the piano and/or lead the residents in singing the beloved old songs and hymns that they still remember.
I remember talking to a group of brass-players once who were visiting such centres around Christmas time to play carols. At one centre, the residents were being brought into the room. One old man was wheeled in in a wheelchair, took one look at the band and said loudly, ‘Not more bl**dy carols!’ I guess he had had too much of a good thing.
When Vince and I played in brass bands, I used to get tired of play carols as we’d visit a lot of towns/associations around Christmas time and play carols.
The photo is mine and was taken in a shop which only has Christmas merchandise.

I can totally understand the man's attitude, and yours. I get tired of hearing Christmas music really fast... With stores playing Christmas music for months before Christmas, is it any wonder I'm burned out on the holidays before they even get here?

When I was social services in a nursing home we had a certain night of the week that carolers came, but I had to work those nights due to the disturbance of some of our dementia patients.

Where I worked, although I wasn't involved in the day to day running of the dementia wing, the carollers came during the day.

Lol. I know a few elderly people who probably would have said the same !
On the whole I think they like people going in to entertain them .....you just get the occasional ' character '.

Yes, that's very true. Some are just a bit grumpy no matter what is going on.

Well, he didn't have to listen! He could have asked someone to wheel him out! It's a good thing that these groups are doing for the residents.

That's a cute photo.
May be the guy on the wheelchair was not in a good mood.

My uncle used to play with a singing group and they would go to nursing homes too.
