I wonder how many people speak with a store's owner or head honcho these days? A few months ago a well meaning friend gave me a lamp "because it goes with your house." Pushy friend. NO. The lamp does not go with my house. It is ungainly and suited for a much larger room than is my reality. Lovely, though. Hand beaded with roses and green shade. Ugly beige base. I tried to give it away but the person never got back to me. I am trying to not have my study become a warehouse for stuff. At 11 this morning I managed to get the lamp into the front seat of my car- I laid the seat down all the way. I drove to our little downtown. I asked the hardware guy if he would lend me a cart so I could pack the lamp next door to the junk/antique whats it shop. Sweet guy. He said sure!! He then ran to my car and hauled out the lamp. He made sure it got to next door. The owner of the whats it shop said she would take the lamp. Thank God. What did I want for it? I said "dunno!!" Then I thought about a wooden piece that I knew she had. She said she would gladly trade the lamp for the piece. Its an ornate piece that used to hold up sheet music. WOW. No more lamp to babysit and now an old time wooden beauty on the wall above the doorway going into my dining room- soon as I ask the Fix It Guy to put it there. I bought four red and green tomato cages from the hardware guy before I drove home. Good prices and those cages keep the pups out of garden beds. What a morning!
