It would have been fifty!

Today would have been my mom and dad’s 50th wedding anniversary (they married very young). She died a few months before their 40th anniversary. Thirty-one of those years were good, with nine a total nightmare due to her dementia. So I am very grateful they got married young. That way my dad got more years with her.
She’s definitely not in pain, and if she knew my dad was married again, and who to, she’d be grateful for that. I don’t think my dad remembered what today is, and that’s okay if he forgot. He has never been good with dates, and he is insanely busy. He’s also a little ticked at me right now.
Kind of like, that girl will never listen!
Is today anything special to you?

No, nothing special about today for us.
Your poor dad, having to put up with you.

I am glad they did have the 31 good years together. It was tragic how it all ended, but you have good memories of her and of them being happy, which means so much.

That’s such a tender reflection — thank you for sharing it. Anniversaries like that can bring up a mix of gratitude, sadness, and even a bit of humor (like your dad’s “never good with dates” side). It sounds like you’ve found a way to honor your mom’s memory while also recognizing that your dad has moved forward in life, which is a loving perspective to hold.

My friend and her husband celebrated their 56th anniversary. Guess it's a very popular date for weddings.

Lovely that your Mom and Dad had so many years together. My parents met at 15, married at 21 and were married over 60 years. It’s good that your Dad found someone else to share his life with . And it’s good that you get on with your step Mom.
