She Texted Me In Panic

United States
September 1, 2025 8:05am CST
Friday morning, my friend texted me in a panic. She went to a gas station and bought 2 honey buns, and a mountain dew. It cost her $6.42 cents. She was so out done, she couldn't believe it. She started talking about how people are going to make it. Well, I don't drink mountain dew, I eat honey buns at times, but that is a lot of money for 3 items. At least for those 3 items. She had to be really upset, to text me early in the morning. I had no words to say. Prices affect all of us. Would you have paid that amount for the items.

No, but I wouldn't have that in the first place. It's just junk food.

One thing I know, she won't be going back there.

Gas station prices are usually higher. She probably could have gotten a better price at a regular store.

Nope, the only pricey thing that I usually buy is drinks from Starbucks, but I do that so I can stay there and do my writing jobs and other stuff. My mom would always cook healthy snacks, it is much cheaper than buying outside.

She is not one to cook. But I am sure she will think about it from now on.

I am sorry to hear that. It is a few treats she got..those will obviously be out of reach soon for many people. I would not have paid that, but again, I don't eat that stuff much or drink soda.

No, I wouldn't have paid that. But I don't buy stuff at gas stations anymore except gas for the car/chainsaw/lawnmower. Once she heard the price, she should have said "No thank you!" and left!

I am with you on that. I would have left it there. She won't be going back I am sure.

No, I don’t think I would have paid it, but I know with how hard things are these days, people want to treat themselves with a sweet treat. I get that.

I do too. But she was so upset. I don't think I would have paid it. It's hard for old school to get used to these prices. I recall a time, if you had a dollar you could say you had some money. We could buy snacks all day long. Lol. Those were the days.

I only buy what I can afford so I´m not shocked at prices.

I don't blame you, that way you won't be shocked as my friend was.

@marguicha Things are so expensive now, I really have to find ways to cut back on things.

I'm sure those few items are more expensive at the gas station but I do agree that prices are ridiculous these days.

Yes, they do. I worked in a fast food gas station and the prices were terrible.

That would be considerably on the cheap side of reasonable here, I think, but it's pretty hopeless comparing prices across countries.

You do usually pay more I those sorts of places. I don’t know of your prices but if your friend was so upset I am guessing it was A LOT of money for the items.

I never buy that sort of thing at a gas station or convenience shop. I think hard before I buy treats. For health and for my pocket book. I do indulge myself for things though.

That was indeed a lot of money for 3 itens! Here everything is getting expensive, going to the supermarket is an assault to our wallet.

She's paying a premium at a gas station. I wouldn't have paid that much.

Gas station food is always ridiculously priced. I would have gone elsewhere, but that's just me. That's a ton of sugar I don't need, haha!
