It's Been a Hell of a Day

We were at the emergency room for 6 hours.
It wasn't me this time. It was my 82 year old mother-in-law.
You'll recall that she fell at home Monday and when we asked her yesterday if she wanted medical attention (we didn't know about the Fall until yesterday) she said no.
Well today she called us saying she couldn't breathe and was in terrible pain in her side. She didn't know how to call an ambulance and didn't know what 911 was.
We got her to the hospital and they were extremely busy with so many ambulances and EMS personnel coming in and out over the course of 6 hours that we lost count.
Long story short she has 2 fractured ribs.
We talked to the doctor about whether or not she go home alone and whether she could manage her pain pills but she absolutely insisted on going home.
I'm exhausted, so I'll update more if I think of anything.

She didn't know how to call 911. Oh, my. She can't be alone anymore. The doctor should have overridden her wanting to go home with pills. What a snarl.

Reminds me of my dad's wife. She fell at home, called grand daughter and her husband to come get her out of the floor but refused treatment. She wanted to watch the OU football game. Called them at 5:30 in the morning because of pain and went to hospital then.

I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL and more stress added to your life. Hard to believe that the doctor let her go home especially with pain meds. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen

You can’t convince her that she needs the help, but at least she’s at a “home” facility, so that’s a good start. It’s scary that she didn’t remember what 911 is!
