We have no power here.

Today we received notes on our doors from the power company. Supposedly they are upgrading their system and we will be down until midnight.
I have some candles lit and an emergency light and weather radio that is charged, it also has USB ports. The phone works of course, but that’s pretty much all that does.
I know we need an upgrade here but they are never convenient. I do miss the electricity when it’s not on!
Plus, we have plenty of wildfire smoke and haze. By the time it comes back on I will be more than ready!

What did people ever do without electricity? They are never convenient, are they? Has to be on their terms. I hope it all goes okay and you are back up by now and with an upgraded system.

It wasn’t too bad, and nice to be warned about it ahead of time for once! Thank you.

Sorry to learn that the power company had to shut down your electricity due to an update.

We are so used to power failure here that we have a Home UPS that takes care of fans, lights, computer, and tv when power goes off
You must have already got your power by now

Yes, it is back on again. What are the reasons yours is off so often--too much power being used, or?

Yes, I have heard that term used before.

Hate it when that happens. Especially if my bed isn’t flat so I can sleep (I have an adjustable bed, and frequently have it “up” before I go to sleep). Glad you had your power restored.

It was eerie to look outside and everything was pitch black dark. My little area has streetlights are controlled by our complex, and even those were out. The police sent out information, and it was on the news that they asked that people stay home if possible and not try to go out when it was out, as even the stoplights, etc. would go out.

I hope it doesn't take too long. I have a standby generator that goes on automatically when the power goes out. I insisted on it while my hubby was still alive.

I had a stand by generator years ago when I lived in a house. I can’t have one where I live now.

I understand. Life really becomes very difficult without power. I had experienced it many times in my life We, however,, don't have any such problems.

It doesn't happen often here, usually it's because of a bad storm.

I sort of wish we were!! It’s so, so dry here right now. Harvesting will start sand no rain in sight for a long time.

Ugh Power outages are zero on the fun meter. I have a couple of lanterns here, but not sure where the charging cords are.

I put all of my emergency stuff in a tub with a lid. ( Of course there are flashlights, candles, etc. available all the time in the house, not in the tub.) I call it the E-tub. The son calls it Mom's apocalypse collection. I've always had one for tornadoes, etc.

I would probably go out and do something different, so I wouldn't be waiting at home for the power to come back on.

It was late at night and a good portion of the city was down and dark. No one wants to be out when it’s like that. The city requested we all stay home if we didn’t have to be out. No stoplights, etc.

This has been a big project for them. They did say there would be at least one more outage, maybe next week, to test some things. But that one shouldn't take long. Part of our grid was getting old and was way overloaded, so it's good they are doing this now, before winter sets in. Thank you, Eva.

As hard as it is being without power at least you had a warning and could be prepared. It's no fun at all when the power goes out and you're suddenly in the dark. We had some thunderstorms last night and I had my fingers crossed the power didn't go out.

I have to agree, it's just no fun when the power goes down for a long time. Glad yours stayed on last night!

I am very sorry for what you are going through and if there is someone who can understand you it would be me. Look, I live in Venezuela and it is no secret that they say they launch sabotage attacks on power plants. But in reality it is a lack of maintenance and the fact that the power plants can no longer cope and have been giving us arguments about 4 hours a day without electricity for years.Fortunately, I live in a privileged area in the sense that it is central and there are schools, shops, restaurants, clinics, and sometimes they don't ration us or they only give us two hours. Today I had four hours.

That would be so very difficult, every day being rationed on your electricity. I am just so sorry.
Our problem of it going off so often this year is strange. A very large Sports Complex was built over a two year period here. It requires a lot of power. The city had studies done and upgraded the electrical grid but after everything was finally done, up and running, we started having a lot of outages. So now they are upgrading our area which is evidently going to take several more nights like tonight was to fix it. They simply didn’t know it wasn’t going to be enough, from what they said.

Well, if it was during the time it wasn't invented yet, they wouldn't have missed what they didn't have or couldn't have imagined such a luxury.I know I am spoiled and count on it being ON. I hate it when it goes out at night...so dark!
It's kicked back on 3 times so far. It's been on for 2 minutes this time...cross your fingers, please!
