Into the fog

Bob went to bed incredibly early last night, he was tired, and had not napped or anything. We had talked about going to a new local cafe, but it is takeout only for the most part. Food is served in takeout containers for the few seats available. If I am paying for food I want to be able to sit and sip, not hurry out the door. So Bob got up quite early for him this morning, and we decided to go to Emporia to I Hop for breakfast. Fog was heavy as we drove east into the sunrise, but breakfast was very good. We were able to pick up a few things we needed at Wal Mart at the same time. Usually I end up angry in Wal Mart. It is usually noisy and cluttered with rap music or such playing overhead, but this was nice. It seemed well managed and well organized. Even announcements on the intercom were subdued, not screechy. The cashier and customers seemed happy, and joked and laughed. The manager hopped on to a register to give a break to the cashier. I told Bob if I just HAD to go to Wal Mart it might be worth it to go to this one. Today is cool, but sunny. We could have gone to the zoo in Emporia, but we were just too full from breakfast. Starting off a pleasant weekend here. I wish the same for you.

They aren't supposed to use Rap music in Walmart. They're supposed to be playing Walmart Radio and that's piped in from Home Office. We're up to 60F at 11 am. I stepped out onto the front porch at 5 am and was chilly at 50F. I still can't see well enough to drive so no restaurant for us this morning.

I do not like the home office stuff either. I hear that sometimes. This was just pleasant with no noticeable extra noise to make you unable to think.

@GardenGerty I just ignored anything coming from the overhead speakers. It made management mad because that meant I didn't hear them paging me. They'd either have to come out and find me to talk to me or they'd have to call different departments in the store and ask each one if I was where they could see me. (I kept telling them to stop playing crap overhead and I'd pay attention to what was being said over the speakers. )

The attitude of the staff can make such a difference to a shopping experience.

It is everything, really, and too many businesses lose sight of this, and on top of that, many managers don't care. I wrote about this recently that if they had some skin in the game, it might change their attitude.

Good that this Wal-Mart is a place you won't mind visiting again. Even I would like to sit and enjoy the meal and not to be rushed out. Sounds like a good start to the weekend..We have long weekend here. Two days are over. I want to enjoy my Sunday now. It's Saturday late night and I am watching TV and mylotting.

@GardenGerty Happy to know that. Despite the long weekend, I couldn't be much on mylot as the site was a bit slow on my side. I spent some time on other two forums that were working smoothly.

They blast rap music in Kansas? What’s wrong with them. Our Walmarts don’t play music except for one time. They had a live band at the opening of one of the new Neighborhood Walmart Markets. I’m sure the band was happy to have a job, but I remember feeling sorry for them. Right there in front of the greeting card section. Next to the aisle of vitamins and antacids.

I am not even sure what it is, rap, hip hop or whatever. It may depend on the store manager. The store in Newton, you can hear it in your car.

I would definitely try to give this Wal Mart all the business possible. We are having some sunny and cool days here too. SO nice for a change.
