Slower Dancing Songs: The One You Love

This morning provided a good laugh for me. We had some rain move through the city; however, watching it on the radar, it was like the eastern side of the city had a restraining order against the rain!
I live on the rain side.
Let’s kick off a new week with another song for @rebelann who’s getting a break from the rockin’ tunes this month (and we’ll make up for it next month
).
The One You Love - Glenn Frey
Huh? This is the same guy who sang “Take It Easy”?
Yep, it sure is. This was Glenn Frey’s solo debut single, showing that he was running away from the Eagles’ sound. (Actually, Don Henley did, too, with synth-driven hits from his debut solo album like “Johnny Can’t Read” and “Dirty Laundry.”) Frey grew up in Detroit and on the Motown sound, and he didn’t get to show that off very much in the Eagles.
While no one will ever mistake this for Boz Scaggs or Robert Palmer (two singers who excelled in blue-eyed soul), it was a good ballad to bring Frey’s “other side” to light after the Eagles broke up.
And look who’s back! Jack Tempchin, who wrote (and sang lead on) the teaser song (“Slow Dancing”) co-wrote this one as well!

Yes, I know this one. Don't really know Glenn Frey though.

@MarieCoyle — she knows who he is, just not by name.

Oh yes you do know Glenn Frey. You said that you “definitely know and love” the song of his I used last month: “Take It Easy.”

I think they've all disintegrated from all the rockers.

I like slow dance songs, they make me look less white when coming to dancing. All, though there is some fun in it when ladies look at my silly white boy dancing.

@FourWalls I am definitely white then, all though there was this one dance I made up in Australia when drunk my platoon sergeant liked, but Aussie ladies were like nah.

Difference in being Caucasian and White when it comes to rhythm. Caucasians have rhythm, but white people can't dance.

@MarieCoyle — the wrong things are played. Too much “Hello,” not enough “Brick House.”

I was commenting on Lionel Ritchie to my son the other day, how much he was overplayed. I can’t hardly listen to his songs anymore.

That gave me a laugh about the rain radar, it really can look like storms are dodging one side of the city. Glenn Frey’s solo work is interesting because it really shows how different he could sound away from the Eagles. The One You Love is such a smooth ballad, and you can definitely hear that Motown influence peeking through. Nice choice for a slower song, and great bit of trivia about Jack Tempchin being involved again.
