The top ten — I need to emphasize these are my personal selections and not the favorites of @rebelann (to whom this countdown is dedicated) — starts tomorrow. Yesterday’s song could have been there, and so could this song. Sway and slow skate along to this classic.
[b]Up Where We Belong - Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes[b]
How did the guy who looked and acted spazzed out at Woodstock and the woman who did the soft-rock/almost country hit “The Right Time of the Night” team up. Furthermore, how did they team up and sound this stinking GREAT!? A question for the ages. I don’t know who picked them to pair together for a duet (maybe they threw darts at lists of singers on the wall, and these two are where the darts landed), because it’s one of the most unlikely pairings in music history, but the results speak for themselves.
An Oscar. A Golden Globe. A Grammy. One of the most memorable songs of the 80s (in an era where everything on the charts seemed to be in a movie). It worked. Splendidly.
Up Where We Belong
Written by Will Jennings, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Jack Nitzsche
Recorded by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
From An Officer and a Gentleman (soundtrack), 1982

One of my all-time favorite jokes, that still makes me laugh, is the “closed-captioned” version of “With a Little Help From My Friends” from Woodstock.

@FourWalls He was such a talented guy. He could sing like there was no tomorrow. But every time he did, you felt like you needed to have an ambulance on standby. As for this video...I almost needed medical attention laughing at it. lol

I read that they promised each other they’d never lip sync this, so you can tell the audio is dubbed in over the performance.

I completely agree. Never expected this out of Cocker.

@FourWalls My sister shared my dad's beach playlist with me 2 years ago. It had Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful" on it. I can listen to most of the songs on it but that one just makes me cry and I have to skip it.

Yesss, definitely love this song, My favorite movie series Bridget Jones used this song when Bridget was pregnant and her boyfriend picked her up to try to carry her to the hospital, That was hilarious him picking up this hugely pregnant woman and you here lift up up to where we belong
