That kid gets on my nerves

So, one thing is the writing group I usually attend has started doing these offshoot creative groups as well as the writing. It is always the same people who come. The people who have been going for the past few months are this mother and her supposedly home schooled kid who just turned 13. I am sorry I am not really comfortable interacting with a 13 year old as a peer. She's very smart, but she does things like whisper to her mother in the middle of the group several times. What is she saying she doesn't want the rest of us to hear? It's rude. Heidi my friend coordinates all this stuff, and puts a lot of time into it, but I am going to minimize my participation. Maybe I am an old person who isn't very tolerant, but I am what I am. I don't want to attend an activity very often that I don't enjoy that much. I will go to the October group as I think they are having some kind of Halloween party but these groups seems like they are more about goofing off and being silly, then doing anything worthwhile.

I have seen similar situations before. Adults wanting their "precious, precocious" off spring to have adult privileges and be treated as peers in adult groups. If you do not like it, do not go.

That's the plan. I may go once in awhile, as I want to see my other friends..but I feel like I am being cheated out of what was a decent group.

One thing I make it an absolute point to avoid in life is doing something I don't like to do. lol

@porwest That's right. I don't think she bothers the other ones though.

Do people share their work or is it mainly social time?

I wouldn't be comfortable in that sort of situation either. And life's too short to spend too much time where you don't want to be.

In India we too have such children who get into our nerves. I stopped teaching at a coaching center as one of the students passed lewd remarks at me.

That's a pity that the group is no longer fun to participate with. I probably would stop going.

I think you have every right to be annoyed by it. The mom really should have thought about how everyone else would feel. I don’t even know you handle that.

I'm sorry about that. But maybe the kid is just being a kid a very shy one, and doesn't want to sound weird in front of the people she doesn't know, or she is bored and want to go home, lol! I hope October will be a good thing for you, Aja!

I would also be annoyed, that girl is rude and her mother should ask her to stop to whisper when she in public.
