How desperate would you have to be to do this??

A young Florida mother evidently lost all hope Wednesday.
She took a little wagon and her three very young children to a public pool, tied herself and the kids together, and jumped in. She made an Instagram post about it on the way to the pool, and fortunately someone got there in time! She wanted to die, and she said there was no one who would take care of them if she left them behind.
Evidently, the father refused to help her and didn't care. Now she is in jail for attempted murder, and not with her kids, of course. I doubt if she will ever have access to her children ever again, now.
I've said it before, and here I am saying it again....we need more available mental health care, available to anyone and everyone, if we want our world to be better.
The children were only 3, 2, and 8 months old. This made me so sad...and yet so thankful the babies were all saved. I have to wonder if someone responsible will step up to care for them, as they will need someone stable.

I agree with you. Mental health is swept under the run here in the U.S. like it is some nasty disease and something to be ashamed of!
I hope these children get adopted together and can stay together and enjoy life now in a loving family environment.

@MarieCoyle Yes, it is stone age thinking and I wonder how it all came about. I guess those folks were not sold on modern medicine and there being a solution to help with the condition(s) were a part of it.

Some people seem to think mental health care is not lacking, and we don't have a mental health crisis. But we do...and the stigma is still there, even after all these years. It shouldn't be something that some people think they have to hide. That's stone age thinking, and it needs to stop.
I hope they do have a good life. It's all so sad. Thankful they were found in time!

It seems that when things like this happen, often the person has exhausted all his or her known options, or just flat out can’t think of a way out, and gives up.

That's heartbreaking. Sometimes life gets so hopeless that people prefer to kill themselves. Here an engineer jumped on the railway tracks just the train arrived. He was an intelligent engineer whose property was fraudulently occupied by his own elder brother.
Mental health care is necessary, but what would one do if such a situation arises??

@MarieCoyle I agree. She must be suffering from very bad family problems.

So, sad..almost any alternative other than doing what she did would have been better.

I know...it's so sad. She reached out through social media to ''say goodbye'' and possibly to get someone to notice, we don't know why. But as you said, almost anything would have been better.

I have heard this story about other women before. I lived through it myself when I was about 6 years old. Luckily mom decided against it before the car went off the mountain road.

It needs to be more widely available to all that need it, and I agree--the problem is literally everywhere.

It just beyond sad that for some reason she couldn't climb out of the despair, and needed help and obviously didn't get it. I know maybe she didn't ask, but the need for her to have help had to be so strong, and it just wasn't there.
I hope the Dad never, ever sees those children again. Not ever.

Yes, more mental health care! So many people have children they do not care about, like this father in the article.

It made me mad. I hope the kids will have a better home and not an abusive one, they are so young and can't protect themselves yet. I hope they will grow up with a good sense in life and a good heart with fear in God.

Yes, it's very sad. But the mother is obviously mentally ill, and the father doesn't care--and help was obviously needed and either not available at all, or the mom had given up. The fact that she posted on social media about doing this, to me that sends a message that she was reaching out for help the only way she could think of at the moment.

I hope the little ones will be able to stay together. Often that is not the case, and all they are really going to have is each other.

She needs help not jail. Sounds like she was asking for help as she went there by making that post.

I agree. I am thankful it didn't end with them all dying in the pool, but she did reach out. I hope she can get help.

I only know what I read in the linked article, and from a similar article I read. Family dynamics would definitely make a difference. Obviously, the woman needs big time help.

How very sad.
Were there no friends or family that noticed she needed help …..if they couldn’t , maybe let the authorities know ….there should have been some help given from somewhere

Mental health is something that must be taken seriously in this situation. Now that she is in police custody, I believe she should receive psychiatric care to determine whether she is mentally unstable and should be treated accordingly rather than criminally charged.

She can’t reason things out in her current state of mind. In the article,it sounded as if she had just given up. I’m not saying she made a good choice. She just couldn’t see past her predicament. I don’t know any more than that except she needed help badly.

And the father will step up and claim how much he loves his kids (watch).
I was watching a documentary on Tennessee Williams yesterday, and it talked about how primitive mental health was even in the mid-20th century, and referenced Rosemary Kennedy's (JFK's sister) lobotomy in 1941, and Williams' sister's lobotomy in the 1930s. When you have those "horror stories" back then it's hard to get people to realize that things are much different now (the same as with medicine: we don't put people in iron lungs anymore).
We ALL have baggage we're carrying, so nobody's above it..so no one should be above asking for help. I'm just thankful that I have the VA to rely on if I have serious issues again.

Oh, those terrible lobotomies! I read of Rosemary long ago, and her father keeping the entire thing on the sly for years. And as I remember, her mother never went to see her. So, so tragic.
And yes, we all do have baggage. If the load gets too heavy, there needs to be a place to go for help without judgement, and available to anyone needing help!

It's tragic. There are signs most the time but people turn their heads not wanting to get involved. Thankfully, someone got there in time. I can't imagine someone wanting to kill their child, but watching a lot of Youtube crime videos, I see it happen a lot.

I used to watch a lot of crime type of shows...I liked learning how they solved them. But with all of today's violence, I now find myself steering clear of crime shows. We see it everywhere, everyday now. It's not fantasy or a tall tale or whatever...now it's real life. I know I can't watch them anymore. Funny how things change, isn't it?
