Are you seeing insane meat prices where you are?

Most people I know here in the US are saying that they are.
Once upon a time, a chuck roast (here in the US we often call it pot roast) was a very affordable dinner. A person could afford a fairly large chunk for a reasonable price and usually get more than one meal out of it.
Um, not anymore. A few friends have posted about this here on mylot, but thought I would post a sticker picture from a local store. And for the record, of course I did not buy any!

Eggs are good, and a person can fix them in a lot of different ways.

Yeah, beef is crazy, chicken we been buying a lot of chicken, but its all crazy. I never seen this country like this where they do not even make affordable food prices. All the crap this country has been through and food was mostly affordable. This is bs.

I agree that it is very hard to eat affordably, although I do know I am a good, frugal cook. Chicken has gone up in price here as well. But there are countries that currently have almost no food, so I am thankful beyond measure to have some. Like I tell my son, ''we may not have what we want to eat, but we have food to eat and we can make it taste good.'' For now, I can make it work.

@MarieCoyle I get you and it does not make it right and it never helps those countries when we cannot even do it right. Lets fix it for them.

We need to fix our own country, somehow, as well.

First time ever: yesterday I saw on F B a vegetarian lunch. It was shown as a "trailer park" lunch. Mashed garbanzos in bread instead of meat. The woman making the sandwich put about a quarter of a jar of mayo in with the beans and spicy mustard but it was a bean based meal. Grapes on the side.

I often make black bean burgers, they are really good. Even the son likes them. I bet the garbanzo was good the way she fixed it1

I see people just walk away from meat displays, to get either ground beef or a sale item if they can find one. Not many people are going to pay these prices.

Beef is ridiculous. It HAS to come down at some point.

It sadly doesn't appear that it will come down any time soon.

It is the 'price' of tariffs. We all knew it was going to happen. Everyone except King Trump. Put it simply... Brasil sells beef at $2 a pound. Company buys it ... has to pay 50% tariff.. meaning that it costs $3.00 to bring it in. You pay that cost.
Brasil doesn't pay any tariffs. It doesn't export... American companies bring it into the US. Guess you have to live in the 3rd World to know it.

I have thought of that many times, but not voiced it. Not sure why, I just haven't.

I do not even remember the last time I afforded a roast. I think our prices are quite similar.

I can’t remember, either. I was given a rather decent sized roast for Mother’s Day. I cut it in four pieces and we have gone through 2of them, one I cooked in broth, etc and froze that, and we have one little chunk left. I won’t be buying any anytime soon!!

It is terrible and shocking. I bought less than a pound of hamburger the other day and it was almost 6 dollars. You would pay well over 30 dollars at Costco for their meats other than chicken.

@MarieCoyle Yes, I was thinking I might stretch the meat with beans. Nobody has been saying it, but I really think we are in a recession.

We use a lot less ground beef than we used to. Casseroles, etc. anything I used to use a pound of ground beef for a dish, I now use half or less. We do what we have to do.

I often stretch the ground meat with beans. It works great.
Whatever mode we are in or regardless of what it’s being called now, it’s tough, and keeps getting tougher. Buckle up, the ride appears to be getting bumpier!

@MarieCoyle - I know that the EU governments are trying to convince people not to eat read meat, the cows pollute it seems. As people did not listen, I suppose that the high price is the way they found to stop people eating meat.

From the hit and miss research I have done on this, the high prices are here to stay for now, and it will take time to get them down at all.
I have made chili before with ground turkey, and it looks like I will be doing that again for awhile.

Sacrificing food over those. I don't know why life became like this. People in power as well as rich people get away with much more money and the ordinary citizen sacrifice a lot

I know it’s not just a problem here, but pretty much everywhere. On our news one night, they interviewed people who said that in order to be able to pay for medications that are not covered by insurance, and higher electricity costs, people are often eliminating a meal a day.

It really hurts to hear. To hear of people, many times elderly, not eating meals to get medicines, just hurts the heart.

Prices in general are going sky high aren’t they , but we find in the UK, it’s bread, butter, veggies and meat/fish.
A while ago they had those security tags on tubs of butter !
We never used to think much of the prices of food but especially when buying meat we will think about how many it will serve etc ( enough for a second day ) ….

Am a lover of meat and yes even here in my country the prices for meat products have risen so much. It's becoming harder for many families to afford it comfortably

Budgets can only be stretched so far and no further. I am not a huge red meat eater, but I do like it. I just cannot and won't pay prices like that, it's foolish. There are other things to eat besides red meat. I am sorry you are having high prices there, it seems to be nearly everywhere.

I don’t get meat to cook. I either get canned chicken or Boca Burgers for my protein at home. So, no, I haven’t noticed it.
