Not to make you feel old or anything, but… I say that a lot when it comes to music. Every year I do those anniversary songs (50, 60 and now 70 year old songs) in conjunction with my birthday (to make ME feel old
), but the great thing about music is that it’s timeless. So if you feel old, get up and boogie to today’s danceable tune!
Heart of Glass - Blondie
AND, not to make you feel old or anything, but Debbie Harry is eighty years old now.
(Oh, today, October 5, is Steve Miller’s 83rd birthday…not to make you feel old or anything…
)
Punk meets disco! Truth be told, Blondie never was a “punk” band, they just played at a club (CBGB’s) known for being a punk venue. (Talking Heads played there, too, which is how they got lumped in the “punk” movement.)
This is the song that launched them to superstardom, although they were hardly “new” when this song came out (this was from their third album). And here we are, 45-plus years later (not to make you feel old or anything…), still enjoying this great song.
So enjoy it again!
Heart of Glass
Written by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein
Recorded by Blondie
From Parallel Lines, 1978

I’m as old as Michael Stipe of R.E.M.
Glad you remembered this one.

@fourwalls This is definitely part of the soundtrack of my life. It conjures up memories of the new wave lady who I now call the missus. In my recent jaunt around the highlands of Scotland it was played everywhere too. One of the best albums ever.

You always have the best musical knowledge!
"Heart of Glass" is such a perfect fusion of styles—that disco beat with Debbie Harry's cool, new wave vibe. It's incredible how fresh it still sounds after all these years. Thanks for the fun facts and for making us all feel a little older today!

@FourWalls That's a fantastic point!
It really does put things in perspective, doesn't it?

At least we don’t feel as old as Steve Miller turning 83 today!

Ah yes, the beautiful Debbie Harry.
I bought this album and is still one of my all-time favourites.
Heart of Glass is probably my favourite track off the album, but they are all good songs. I also really loved “One Way Or Another”.
Because she was so beautiful, I would have preferred this version:
but that’s just for my benefit
P.S. You mean “45-plus years (not 55-plus years), otherwise your making me 70+, and I don’t want to be that old just yet.

@FourWalls When I read it I thought, “55 years ago? I must be really old” Part of that IS true though
Thanks, I just listened/watched the video. I wished she was MY Sunday Girl, and Monday, Tuesday………
She was SO beautiful and it’s bringing back such memories of bygone times. I feel happy and sad at the same time.

Thanks, I changed it. The math skills are the first thing to go at this age.
Just for you, one of my favorites from the album.

I remember hearing that song by Blondie a lot in the late 1970s.

I think the 70s NYC punk scene made a lot of people “weirdos.’

Wasn't really one of my favorites. Loved Baker Street by Gerry Rferty..the Sax was just awesome. Bob Seger and of course Disco was big in the 70's. I love all kinds of music. I have line danced to Hells Bells in a Redneck bar. LOL

I love that entire album from Gerry Rafferty. One of my favorite albums from the 70s. This isn’t my favorite Blondie hit (that’s “The Tide Is High”) or single (like “Denis”), but it was so much fun to skate to!
