The galah said hello; her owner nodded

While we were sheltering from the drizzle at the Nungarin Markets, a gentleman came along with a pink and grey galah on his shoulder. The galah said ‘hello’ and the man nodded. He said he’d had the galah for 23 of its 25 years. It was free to come and go as it pleased but it rarely flew very far away at all. It was also prone to landing in a tree and not being able to get down! What intrigued me was how dark the colours were. Maybe it doesn’t spend a lot of time in the sun but the pink was very dark as was the grey. It created a lot of interest from the passers-by.

@LindaOHio The African Greys are supposed to be the most intelligent.

It was very happy to sit on Vince's shoulder and on anyone's shoulder who happened along.

It has become a "home parrot", it is true that his colours are very dark, but he is cute.

@JudyEv - Some people feel better being with animals than being with humans.

The man had a bit of trouble talking to us and I think the galah was a very good companion for him.

Being scared of heights wouldn't be a good thing for a bird! lol

Really cool, I have watched a lot of cockatoo videos on FB and Tik Tok. There is one everyday he likes to throw his toys down the stairs, and then at some point he picks them up goes back upstairs, climbs into his perch and "bedroom:..and put it in his toybox..ready to be abused for the next day. It's comical really.

I remember seeing those in the wild, they are very noisy! I didn't know they talked though. And yes that is a very dark pink.

They are certainly noisy and in this area they are 'managed' from April to October. They, and corellas, have reached plague proportions. I guess they trap and/or shoot them.

It's a bit of an anomoly (if that's the right word) - a bird that's scared of heights! Much like having an otter scared of water.
