1978 - Halloween What list of Halloween movies would be complete without the slasher film, Halloween. This movie was actually responsible for the development of the slasher genre. Halloween was one of the most profitable independent films of all time, shot with a budget of only $300,000-$325,000 and bringing in $70 million at the box office. The screenplay was written in a mere 10 days; and Director John Carpenter was asked to score the movie to make it more scary. This film spawned a 13-film franchise. In 1963 in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois, the 6-year-old Michael Myers (the masked Myers was played by Nick Castle) kills his teenage sister with a chef's knife. 15 years later Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasence) heads for the sanitarium with nurse Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens) where Michael is incarcerated. Dr. Loomis is to take Michael to a court hearing. When they arrive at the gate, Myers jumps on the car hood, attacks Marion and steals the car. After killing a mechanic and stealing his coveralls and stealing a mask from a hardware store (the mask is modeled after William Shatner's Captain Kirk character) he begins stalking Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Dr. Loomis, who is Michael's psychiatrist, spends the movie tracking him down. Photo Credit: Pixabay

There have been a few sequels, but I think this is the best of the lot.

That sounds like an interesting review. Although I have not been a big fan of Horror movies, I have seen a few. May be fans of such movies would be rating this one quite highly. Why did you term it as 'slasher" ? (Your initial sentence).

I have all in video, The original is the best the second where she runs around the hospital is too much and the one about the Halloween mask factory is a bit too frightening,

I think Halloween Season of the Witch is the mask factory, isn't it? I've seen that a couple of times.

Another good one. The sequels were never as good as the original, but that's usually how it goes with this sort of thing. They did good on making this one quite creepy and fun to watch.

@porwest And you're a guy. Women are usually more afraid to be alone at night. I know I am.

@LindaOHio I am never afraid to watch scary movies alone. I admit I did have a nightmare once though because I was watching it in bed right before I went to sleep. Not Halloween but one of the Scream versions.

I never watched any of those movies like Halloween, Elm Street and seems like there's one other I can't recall. Funny how Micheal keeps seeming to die and then comes back. Again, and again. They make a lot of money and that keeps them coming.

Now this is more my genre of Halloween movies. That is very interesting that this movie has a character named Sam Loomis and that their partner was a Marion.
